Second Floor Common Room, Saturday Evening

Tony had the DVD for Harry V and a box full of doughnuts from J, GOB, because he couldn't think of any good reason to not have doughnuts for dinner. He put the movie in and flopped down on the couch with the remote.

[Open! Because OMG the 4th floor CR is full!]

"I'm really not explaining this well." Dinah sighed, looking around. One last doughnut left. "Okay, let's see if-- don't freak out, okay?" Better to find out if he'd weird out now. Oh, she really hoped he wouldn't.

Reaching out with her telekinesis, she yanked a doughnut toward her. Annnd it went shooting past her lap to land on the coffee table. "Oops."

Merlin's eyes were wide. "And it's not magic?"

"Unh-uh." Dinah said, reaching over to pick up the doughnut, still looking a little nervous. "It's just me. My brain is different from other people's. Barbara-- she's my adopted sister," Dinah clarified. "Did a whole set of scans of my brain, to see if I was really meta-human. Most people use about five percent of their brains all the time. The rest is resting. Mine's... much more active." She shrugged. "So, it's like, everyone *could* do it? But they're brains aren't turned on. The parts that can do this are asleep." She frowned. "Or something."

Yeah, she knew she'd screw up this explanation.

Looking at the doughnut curiously, Merlin nodded. He looked more thoughtful than anything. "Do you not do it much?"

Dinah turned pink, and took a bite out of the doughnut, and chewed and swallowed before answering. "I'm kind of new at it. Only about five months or so. I'm supposed to practice to get better, but it's not easy to do when I don't know anyone to teach me," she admitted. "I don't do it at home much. People there don't like it, or understand. Only my family knows, and a few other people like me."

"I'm sorry," Merlin said quickly, dropping his eyes.

"It's okay. You asked." Dinah fidgeted a little bit, then blurted out, "Do you mind? About me? Being different, I mean."

"What? No! No, no. It's just--" He struggled for words. "--who you are."

"Thanks," Dinah said, relieved. No need to get into the other stuff yet. "And yeah. There's a bar, back home, where all the metas hang out. No Man's Land. It was nice to go there and not have to worry what they'd think of me. But it's even nicer to be here, and know that people just don't care. I'm glad it doesn't matter to you either."

To have something like that back home...

Merlin offered her a small smile. "This place is very different than anything else, I think."

"Completely and totally and absolutely, in a good way."

Merlin grinned for a moment before adding more seriously, "Don't let Arthur see you do that, though. He's having enough trouble with this as it is."

"No problem. I know he's kind of," Stubborn? Pig-headed? Intransigent? "--conservative. I'll keep it on the down-low until he's loosened up a bit." Dinah paused. "Or a lot."
