The Roof, Monday Night

Okay, so whatever, she hadn’t exactly waited for Liir before getting on Staffy and practicing swooping up and down on the roof. But she hadn’t exactly lied either—she’d just gone out her window instead of walking up.

So of course she had to fly up. And then, once you were in the air, why would she ever want to come down?

She laughed, and did a twirl with Staffy.

She snickered a bit at that.

"Pick a direction then!"

He looked around before pointing to the nearest water.

"That way," he said as he started towards it.

"I'll beat you!" she crowed, putting on speed and getting ahead of him.

He bent to the handle and zoomed forward, gaining on her quickly.

"The hell you will," he laughed as he followed her.

"I will!" she insisted, leaning over Staffy and urging it even faster!

He told the broom it'd better kick up the speed and it reared almost like a horse before flying forward.

"Going to catch you!"

"No one can catch me!"

Just, you know, she was ignoring the fact that the gap between her and him was steadily closing.

"Except for me!" he pointed out with a laugh as he edged up beside her. The beach was in sight.

Ino flattened herself even further as she raced for the beach. "You've got an unfair advantage!"

He pulled in his elbows and went into a barrel roll, using the spin to speed him towards the beach.

"Nu-uh!"

"Cheater!" she howled, quickly rolling into a spin after him.

"Am not!"

And he was just about at the beach.

"Not fair!" she cried, as it was clear that, even though she'd done a good job in closing the gap, that he was going to win.

He didn't dare slow down and his foot skimmed the water with a whoop of triumph.

"Mean!" she was giggling though as she chased after him.

He went off over the water before looping around.

"Still don't see how I'm a cheater," he pointed out.

"'Cause you've been brooming-it-up for longer than me."

"Not by much! Just a few months."

"Still counts," Ino informed him, doing a figure-eight in the air.

He followed in a loop-di-loop.

"Can anyone really become an expert?" he asked her curiously, "do you think?"

"Maybe if they live forever," she mused, heading up and up. "'Cause I don't think you can feel all the winds there are in a normal lifetime."

"I still don't think it's cheating," he said with a lift of his head.

"Don't take it so seriously," she laughed. "I just don't like losing."

He swooped around.

"Oh, I'm not. I'm just teasing. Flying is flying."

"And it's wonderful!" she crowed delightedly.
