Third floor common room- Friday night

Jaina finally decided she had to get out of her room and away from her comlink for a while. These moments of self-preservation were rare, and it was good for her to take advantage of them when it actually occurred to her to do so.

Which was why she'd made her way into the common room, rifled through the kitchen till she'd found ice cream (hope no one was gonna miss that, but there seemed to be enough to share so she didn't feel bad) and sat herself down in front of the TV.

And stopped on CNN. Obviously someone had to be saved from herself.

[Clearly I am bored. Fix that.]

John collapsed next to Jaina and frowned at her program choice. "You have no taste in TV, you know that? I hope your ice cream is better."

Oh and look at him try to steal it.

Good luck with that, he was hungry. "Here, let me recap for you. This is Earth, so there's war, more war, poverty, disease, a dog doing something heroic, and an idiot politician sticking his foot in his mouth. How close am I?"

"Sounds endlessly pleasant," he deadpanned. "Makes me wonder if the economy where I'm from is so great." Of course, his family would be fine. People always needed utilities.

And that was him holding it farther away from her hand while he ate it.

Lois was on the way back to her own floor when she spotted Jaina in the common room. She walked in and kind of stared at the TV with a confused look on her face for a moment.

"Oh god, are you watching the news?" Lois asked.

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Trust me when I say I tried to teach her better about television," John promised Lois.

[identity profile] armybrat-lois.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
"At least she picked CNN and not Fox News or something," Lois said as she flopped down into an armchair. "But everyone knows the only news you need comes from SportsCenter."

She may have watched it a couple times a day. Shh, she was totally a girl.

"Oh Lois," she'd made his night. "I'll hold her down, you grab the remote and we'll get the ESPN going."

[identity profile] armybrat-lois.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Sounds like a plan. I get the easy job," Lois said, grinning. Jaina was small but Lois had the feeling she could probably take her. "It would be for her own good anyway."

[identity profile] armybrat-lois.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Because it's so depressing," she said. "I figure if something really bad happens they'll stop my cartoons to tell me about it. So I don't really need to hear about the tiny depressing stuff."

[identity profile] armybrat-lois.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
"A little bit," Lois said, putting her fingers together to show how little. "I would have also taken you wanting to learn more about this planet as an excuse."

Éowyn had been wary of the television ever since the incident with Merlin, so when she came into the common room, her first act was to take a careful peek and make sure there were no naked women on the screen. Only then did she stay. "May I ask what you're watching?" she asked politely.

[identity profile] outofthecage.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
"I certainly would not mock you when we've only just met," Éowyn said. "Being informed is not foolish at all."

[identity profile] armybrat-lois.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Hey, roomie," Lois said, giving Éowyn a wave. "We're just catching up on current events."

Oh god, it was so boring.

[identity profile] outofthecage.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
"So I see. And not watching anything sexual, which is an improvement over my last experience with the television," she said. It was possible they had different ideas of what was entertaining.

[identity profile] armybrat-lois.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Lois raised an eyebrow. "What exactly were you watching the last time? Was it in a common room?"

"Oh, look, you're still alive outside of classes and the flight shed," Tahiri said by way of greeting, having peered in out of curiosity on her way downstairs. "What are you watching?"

Tahiri wandered toward the fridge to see if there was anything worth eating in there, and asked over her shoulder, "Is it at least less depressing?"
