Second Floor Common Room, Saturday Morning

Molly had no idea what she was doing up this early, but decided to celebrate by wandering into the common room to get a bowl of cereal and glass of juice before she figured out what to do with the rest of her weekend.

Maybe she'd catch up on her Thaumaturgy, since she'd missed Thursday. Or maybe she wouldn't.

She turned the television on and began to surf lazily, right up until the remote stopped working and she got stuck watching some kind of CID marathon, because obviously she wasn't getting up off the couch to change the channel.

"They're not stereotypes if they're true," she argued, "and how do those hurt you? We don't have the things Pennsylvania does because we're in Maryland!"

"I went to bed in Pennsylvania." Malcolm pointed out. "Why would I be in Maryland now?"

"I don't know. Maybe you got kidnapped?"

"I think I would remember if that happened."

Well, maybe. Possibly.

"And the kidnappers would be asking for a ransom."

Not that they'd be asking him for it.

"Would they be asking you for it?"

"I don't know," Malcolm said, as though this were the most obvious thing in the world. "I've never been kidnapped."

"Maybe you got drunk at a party and got into the wrong car and ended up here?"

"Oh no, I don't drink. I'm underage."

"Wow, you're so in the wrong place..."

"I know. I woke up in a girl's room. Zoe's gonna be so mad!"

"Is Zoe your girlfriend?"

"Oh yes! She's the best girl, and she's very smart. I just managed to convince her not to be ashamed to be seen with me."

"...why would she be ashamed?" He seemed nice enough, and wasn't hideous looking. Though maybe the slow-on-the-uptake thing was an issue with this Zoe girl?

"Because I'm kind of an idiot?" Malcolm shrugged. "Like I said, she's real smart."

"Don't talk about yourself that way," she said automatically, even if she agreed with him based on their conversation so far. "She can't be that smart, if you had to convince her."

"Why not? It's true." And Malcolm wasn't really very broken up about it. He was what he was. "But she is smart. She's Jewish."

As though that explained the smartness.

Yes, he'd just recently been lecturing Molly on stereotypes. Hush, now.

"Doesn't that just mean she can't see?"

"Her prescription is really strong," Malcolm agreed. "She let me try on her glasses, once. It was like looking through a giant magnifying glass!"

Molly grinned. "Sounds like you like her a lot."

"I do! She always thinks of great things to do, like go see Japanese movies. Those are really neat. I still don't know why they don't make them here."

"...because we're not in Japan and most of us don't speak Japanese?"

It was like a little light bulb going off. A very little one. Like, a fairy light bulb. That blinked. And was almost dead.

"Ohhhhhh! That might be it!"

Molly couldn't help laughing. "Have you two been dating long?"
