Wednesday After Classes, The Gym -- Cheerleading Practice

Savannah was a little more somber than usual as she got to the Gym and set up for practice. She pulled out the mats and made sure they were perfectly aligned. After doing that, she set up a table for the refreshments and then a table with the sign in sheet and the music.

The gym was alive with the sounds of techno as Savannah started stretching out.

"Even if I don't...get in fights like that?" Ned asked, nodding to the area where the fight had almost taken place.

"I'd rather you didn't," she assured him. "Boys is stupid. They was just bein'...dumb."

"About what?" Ned wondered.

"I got no idea," she said honestly. "I was thinkin' 'bout puppies."

"Okay," he said and laughed. "I was thinking about nothing at all."

"I can't do that. I always think somethin'," she told him.

"I learned to let my mind go blank," he said. "When I was a kid. It helped."

"You'd be good at meditation," she decided.

"I dunno," he said thoughtfully. "I did it most of the time so I could sleep."

"Buddhists always're doin' that," she said wisely.

"Meditating or sleeping?" Ned asked.

"I meant meditatin', but I'm sure they sleep too," she decided.

"I didn't know you knew Buddhists," Ned said. "Are you one?"

"Buddhism an' Christianity is what most folks back home follow," she told him. "An' no, I ain't much of nothin', really."

"Me either," he said, somewhat relieved. He'd hate to know he'd been ignoring her religion. "I'm just me."

"I believe in bein' nice t'people," she decided. "That's my faith."
