The Stables [midmorning-onwards]

Aravis had a horse. She knew there were several others who had horses, too -- she'd said good morning to those horses when she'd carefully gotten Trenor out -- but she felt hers was the best. Clearly.

So, Aravis, her pockets full of apples, was carefully walking Trenor around the yard, and had located a mounting block (plus there was a little bit of fencing she could climb up, if she needed) for later.

[ARAVIS WILL GIVE HORSIE RIDES. So, um, open. I go into heeeeeavy SP at 4 EST though.]

"Like a bird?" she asked, further confused.

"A really big one," Ben said. "Because we fits inside it." He tried to stretch his arms out to demonstrate "really big", but wobbled and reached back for the saddle instead.

Aravis reached out to snug an arm around his little waist to keep him in the saddle, flicking the reins to get Trenor to start walking, too. "Careful!"

Ben put one hand on her arm in a tight little grip. "Faaaar down," he said in a shaky voice.

"I won't let you fall," Aravis said with absolute certainty. "I've been on horses my whole life. You'll be all right."

"You're 'ravis," Ben said, nodding. It was good enough for him.

"And Trenor won't let you fall, either. He won't go too fast unless I tell him to," she promised, holding the reins in front of Ben so he could see.

"Slow's good," Ben said, leaning a little against her.

"Want to hold the reins?" she offered.

He nodded his head hard. "Please," he added.

Aravis carefully handed him the reins. "Hold them like this. Like it's a cup of water, so you can't spill it. Straight up and down in your hand like that."

Ben nodded again and followed her instructions exactly. No coloring outside the lines for this kid.

"Like this?"

"Good!" Aravis congratulated. "Do you want him to go faster?"

Ben thought about it for a moment, then nodded.

"Give the reins a little flick," she instructed. Aravis dug her little heels into Trenor's sides, to help.

Ben did so, then let out a happy little "Eeeeee!"

Trenor trotted a bit around the yard, though Aravis kept close care to make sure they didn't go too fast. "It's like flying!"

Ben didn't agree with that, but he didn't want to make Aravis sad. "Like being on a speeder bike," he said, nodding.

Luke flew slowly when Ben was aboard.

"I don't know what that is," she replied. "At home, I ride much faster than this, but I am not allowed near the big horses."

"They get bigger?" Ben didn't look all that thrilled to hear that.

"Warhorses are huge," she said, nodding. "For battle!"

"Do they use their teeths?" Ben asked nervously.

"Just to eat apples, like Trenor," she promised. "Trenor's a little boy horse! He's going to stay little like this forever, but warhorses are biiiiiiiiiiiiig."

"Bigger'n trees?" Ben asked.

"Bigger than some trees!" she offered.
