Second Floor Common Room, Wednesday Evening

Tony had his popcorn and pop and was settled into the couch in the second floor common room. Tonight's episode had Raymond Dark facing off with a mummy he'd defeated but not destroyed in 1938. It seems the Nazis had put the mummy in storage under protective glyphs, but it had been sold to a collector who, of course, had to go and pop the coffin open to see what was inside.

Viki considered that.

"They must, or the show would fail," she said, giving that bit an answer first. "And grossness is relative, though that was more than seems the usual around here, at least. Did you make it out alright? I drowned any that came for me, I admit, so I'm not the best to talk of gore and how it might affect someone."

Lee Nichols's shirt was coming off again. "So, so true."

Dinah wrenched her attention back to Viki after a minute, and said, "I did. I ended up on the roof of Groovy Tunes after I got caught out in the open, and the local police got me clear. Then I was fighting them all afternoon with a bunch of people. Shooting or throwing things at them." She frowned. "Drowning? How?"

"Ah, you seem to have made it out well enough then." Viki glanced sideways at her. "Teleporting a living being into the depths of the ocean leaves them good and dead, I assure you."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Well enough," Dinah agreed, which, really, how else could you classify it? She'd just been scared sick, not hurt, and she hadn't fallen apart, so. "Ohhh. I didn't realize you could teleport things other than yourself. That's convenient."

Viki looked amused.

"My worth to the various armies I have served in would be quite a bit less if I could only move myself!"

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Okay, that makes sense." Dinah shook her head. "When did you get used to serving in an army? I mean. Battles, things like that?"

[identity profile] blinkandsneeze.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Viki spent a good long moment trying to consider that.

"...I'm not sure, entirely," she admitted. "Quite a while though, I've been through at least five of them, so it was not anytime recent that this was a development."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Five armies?" Dinah asked, completely blown away. "Seriously? I... Viki, how old are you again?"

[identity profile] blinkandsneeze.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Entirely serious, I assure you."

Another too long pause.

"People ask, and I don't know how to answer," she said, with a bit of a shrug. "I do not remember myself as ever looking different than I do now, though I have met someone who could have been me, while younger, but she left rather than have us deal with that particular issue."

Oh, time travel.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Dinah stared. And stared. And stared a bit more. "Um... So, is it that you've got amnesia, or you're just-- so old you don't actually... remember?"

[identity profile] blinkandsneeze.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
"How would you track time while you move through time?" Viki asked, a bit tired. "I cannot do it, not when the paths criss-cross back and forth over one another and I met people I do not remember having met and yet they already know me from a future visit I will make, or I meet people, who I know, but they do not yet know of me?"

She shrugged, twirling a bit of hair. "There is very little I am certain of, you understand, and keeping track of time is not one of them."

So... closer to the second option there.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Ow," Dinah said, as eloquently as she could. "That's... yeah." Maybe if Viki had had a time-keeping watch with the date on it when she left home, that would've worked, but it probably would've gotten lost somewhere in her travels. "What are you certain of then? Something small."

[identity profile] blinkandsneeze.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Viki pointed to herself. "My appearance," she said, "is the main one. I do not change. My hair, even, barely grows. It's a comfort knowing not everything changes."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Your hair barely grows?" Dinah blinked at her, curious. "So, it's like time's stopped for you. That's ... weirder than most things around here."

[identity profile] blinkandsneeze.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Is it?" she wondered, glancing at her hair. "I hadn't considered it so, really, as it only affects me. Not," Viki added, "that I'm the only one back in my world who does not change. It comes with certain power."

Immortality and True Runes. An old story.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Hunh." Dinah blinked, then said, "Yeah, I mean, everyone's hair grows. Or fingernails. It's like you're frozen, kind of. Okay, that sounds wrong, but you get what I mean." She cocked her head. "Did you know anyone else like that, back home?"

[identity profile] blinkandsneeze.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
She studied her nails for a moment.

"A few," she said, "though we don't tend to stick around each other long. A visit every now and then is nice enough though."
