Second Floor Common Room, Wednesday Evening

Wednesday night found Firekeeper and Blind Seer, as usual, in the common room for their weekly dose of Darkest Night.

At first, tonight's episode had looked especially promising, as the plot claimed to center around a girl who'd been raised by wolves.

Within minutes, though, there was a somewhat annoyed-looking girl who actually had been raised by wolves throwing the occasional piece of popcorn at the screen.

Those weren't even real wolves they were using!

Tony was snickering. "I guess their wolves are about as accurate as their vampires and wizards."

"Not even real wolves!" Firekeeper grumbled. "Just, just..." she fumbled, trying to remember the word. "Toys!" it wasn't quite it, she knew, but close enough.

"Looks like they're using puppets," Tony agreed. "Except for that one. That's a guy in a costume." It seems they'd found a use for the gorilla suits after all.

"Puppets," Firekeeper repeated, nodding. That was totally the word she'd been thinking of. "And he not even look like wolf."

"Yeah," Tony said. Someone had made a new mask but the rest of the body still looked like gorilla. "They're on a budget."

"Budget?"

"Money. Uh, everything on a show costs money to do, and they only have a certain amount," Tony said. "They could probably get better wolves, but it'd cost too much money."

"Ah," Firekeeper nodded. "Could they not ask help from people who know things of wolves? Or is this costing money too?" Her experiences with humans in Hawk Haven had taught her that there were at least some people who had a pretty good understanding of how wild animals worked, even if they had only ever encountered Cousins.

"It might take money. Or time," Tony said. "Or maybe they just don't care, because the story works better the wrong way."

"Perhaps," she admitted, only somewhat grudgingly. She could see how some of the very un-wolf-like things the "wolves" were doing related to the plot, such as it were.

"It happens a lot in TV," Tony said apologetically.

"I see this now," Firekeeper said with a sigh, thinking of Viki's complaints about the mummies.

Tony grinned. "Yeah, now you know what it's like."

"Is still a good story," Firekeeper replied. "But, is only that: story."
