Gym, Friday After Classes

The gym was decorated in festive blue and gold for the auction the cheerleaders were holding.

There was happy, bouncy music playing as everyone arrived and mingled, and there was a table set up with food and drinks for the attendees to enjoy.

A platform had been set up in one end of the gym and there was a podium with a microphone for the auctioneer.

The "Lunch With A Cheerleader Auction" was about to begin.

"Really spiffy," Dinah couldn't help but say. "But hey. His money. So yay."

"Totally. And hey, you won yourself a Chad."

"I did! I hope Teddy's not too mad. I thought he'd outbid me." Dinah tilted her head. "Maybe we can combine it with the trip to the circus we talked about when I was five."

Priestly laughed. "Man, it sounds weird to hear you say it that way."

Dinah giggled. "Like Chad's been putting it off for ten years, yeah. This place makes you double-take with every conversation."

"Just a little. Speaking of, have you heard from our prince lately?"

"I have not!" Dinah frowned, thinking. "I didn't go by the diner this week on his day. You haven't seen him? We should remedy that. He's adjusted a lot, but I like hanging out with him just to hang out, too."

"Totally! Guy's got the weirdest perspective on things. It's awesome."

"This weekend? I didn't have anything planned except for a trip to the library, maybe."

"Oh, well, this weekend I was totally gonna. . . ." Priestly gestured vaguely. "And then, well, then there's gonna be. . . . Yeah, I got nothin'. We should track him down."

"Cooool! Maybe we can do that actively relaxing, totally-not-doing-anything thing we were talking about. Edward might like that."

Priestly snorted. "Oh yeah, I can see it now. Ten minutes in: 'Priest! This relaxing is good!' and thirty seconds later: 'What are we going to do next?'"

Dinah cracked up. "Okay, maybe something else, then."

"He's more the adventure type, really."

"Did you guys get off the Island yet? We could always go into Baltimore and look for fun. And if he's not up for that, there's rock-climbing?" Dinah had been itching to try that for a while, and since Arthur didn't seem to be likely to do so soon....

"With, like, harnesses and stuff?"

"Yeah! I've been doing it on the dorms." She bit her lip. "Which is probably harder on rocks? But we could stay low, and everything, for practice, until we got the hang of it."

". . . You've been scaling the dorms?"

"Um. Yes?" Dinah blinked at him, trying to look innocent. "Only twice!" Well. Two separate occasions... "Up and down a few times each time, you know how it is."

No, no he really didn't.

"Not really, no."

"It's like peanuts, once you start-- ooh, right, forgot the time I was just dangling there half the night. But that wasn't much fun, mostly boring." Dinah looked thoughtful. "Anyway, if you're both beginners, maybe that's not such a good idea. I'm no expert yet."

"Dangling there?"

"There was this bet, which I lost. I still have to give Seregil candy for that, too. Sooo, what, you think Baltimore is ready for Edward?"

Trying to change the subject? Her? Naaaah.

"Dude. I cannot believe the woman who scales dorms gave me crap for a little doobie."

"There is so no comparison there," Dinah scoffed. "Dorm-scaling isn't illegal. And it's totally safe if you have harneses and brakelines and go with a friend, sheesh."

Okay. Maybe that dangling-by-herself hadn't been the smartest, but as of this second, she wouldn't do that again, so it was totally cool.
