Gym, Friday After Classes

The gym was decorated in festive blue and gold for the auction the cheerleaders were holding.

There was happy, bouncy music playing as everyone arrived and mingled, and there was a table set up with food and drinks for the attendees to enjoy.

A platform had been set up in one end of the gym and there was a podium with a microphone for the auctioneer.

The "Lunch With A Cheerleader Auction" was about to begin.

"I'm more sedentary," Jess admitted. "I don't like much of anything."

"At all?" Dinah asked, dimpling. Unable not to, with a statement like that. "TV? World of Warcraft? The Internet? Thumb wrestling?"

"I read a lot," Jess finally said. "And I like movies. Old ones, though. A lot of the new stuff is crap."

"Not much of a reader," Dinah admitted. There was always something to do. "Old movies, those I like. Humphrey Bogart. William Powell. Mysteries, mostly."

"I figured books and adrenaline wouldn't go well together," Jess said. "It's probably better that I don't do physical stuff. I'd be a danger to those around me."

"Better than a curse. Though I guess you could break one of those," Dinah said, thinking out loud. "Still. Next time, I'll knock on your window again so you can boggle, if you want."

"Uh-hunh! Triela's done it a ton more than I have. We were thinking Nerf guns next time, maybe."

It was possible that Jess was giving Dinah a look like she sounded even crazier than usual. "Nerf guns. To shoot...at each other?"

"Sure? Little Nerfs. Not big ones. And only when we're stopped." She grinned. "Or maybe not." They hadn't actually worked out the logistics yet.

"You know that if you get yourselves killed, it's gonna look awkward, right?" Jess said. "It'll be the kind of thing the next generation of students will talk about and laugh."

"Maybe. Definitely no shooting at the people whose windows you're coming through," Jess warned. "Or we might have to arm ourselves as well."

Dinah chortled, then looked hopeful as a thought struck her. "Marshmallow guns?"

Maybe being five again hadn't entirely worn off yet.
