The Roof - Friday Evening

Chuck's little, ah, problem had cleared up yesterday but he didn't let himself out of his self-imposed imprisonment until Friday afternoon. He wouldn't put it past Peter to lull him into a false sense of security and then make it all come back while he was in public or something. He went to the roof after the cheerleading auction with a couple joints to get stoned out of his mind. He planned on staying high for most of the weekend, actually. Probably not the smartest thing to do since at some point he wanted to go get that camera from Dean but, whatever. This was fun.

"You having trouble inhaling?" Chuck asked. "Looks like you rolled it too tight."

". . . It can be too tight?" Priestly looked over the joint in his hand. "I figured it was just hard to get the paper to open enough on the end."

Chuck shook his head. "Yes, it can be too tight. You don't want it too tight or too lose. You're gonna bust a lung smoking that thing."

"Well, sorry, I never took pot 101."

"Aren't you glad you know me then?" Chuck asked. He pulled out the slim gold case he kept his joints in out of his pocket and took out one that he rolled himself. "Trade you."

Priestly eyed the joint and nodded, holding out his own apparently crap one. "Guess so. You've got lots of practice, huh?"

"Been doing it since middle school," Chuck said to him as he switched the joints. He'd fix Priestly's failed attempt at rolling later. "It doesn't take too long to get a hang of. Just takes practice."

Wasn't he encouraging?

Priestly nodded as he set about lighting up the joint -- which he did a little better than he rolled it. "Well, like I said, that's attempt numero --" He took the hit and tried not to cough. "-- dos."

"It's not bad for a second attempt," Chuck allowed, holding the joint up. "I just don't want you hurting yourself."

Or wasting good weed. That too.

"And here so many people think you're heartless."

"I prefer to keep my good deeds kept under wraps," Chuck said. "I'm not a bragger."

What a liar.

"Oh yeah, you totally have a heart of gold."

This was one of the more amusing conversations Priestly had had in awhile.

Maybe it was partially the pot.

"Shhh. Not too loud," Chuck joked. "Once it gets around that I'm nothing but a teddybear then people will be asking for favors all the time."

Priestly nodded, taking another hit. "That would suck. But, hey, from what I hear, my doppelganger would still hate ya."

"Oh yes, I can always count on Dean to hate me," Chuck said, snickering. "It's almost comforting."

"Why is that? I mean, it seems to predate your . . . whatever it is with his brother."

"It was loathing at first sight," Chuck said. "Dean was a douche from the start when we met my first day here."

"Really. Well, I guess that happens." Kind of like him and Arthur, except that Priestly at times went out of his way not to antagonize people, and Dean seemed . . . less likely to do that. "So what is up with you and Sam?"

"Nothing," Chuck replied. That was true. Kind of. "I just fucked around with him a little."

He totally did not care if Priestly took that the wrong way.

"Heart of gold." Priestly shook his head. "You really like getting under Dean's skin, huh?"

"You could say it's a hobby of mine," Chuck said. "It's not like he doesn't deserve it. He started it."

Very mature, Bass. Very mature.

"Right. By . . . being a douche. And I've heard he also has 'jerk aura'."

"Who said that?" Chuck asked.

"Hannibal, first day I met him. You know, I'm not sure how I feel about Dean walking around with my face giving off 'jerk aura'."

"I doubt anybody is going to mix the two of you up," Chuck said, his eyes going up to Priestly's hair. "At least not after you explain that there's two of you."
