Just Outside the Main Gate, Friday Morning

He'd been assessing people resources for most of the previous day. Since there had yet to be word from Lady Zoe, Arthur took the opportunity today to scope out how much space there would be for a barricade - if one could even be feasible.

This brought him to the area just outside the gates, wearing full armor and backed by Merlin-the-idiot-sorcerer, his eyes shooting towards the road in front of them from time to time.

[[ open, especially to merlin, and zombie-ok as well! ]]

"Too bad we don't have a ton of transparisteel lying around." Tahiri ignited her lightsaber to cut a rock in half at a sharp angle, then propped the two halves, now with rather slick, sheer faces, up against the dirt berm. It'd help, but no way was she spending all day carving up rocks.

A sardonic hint of a smile twisted at the corners of her mouth briefly. "Blorash jelly would come in handy here, but it's a kriffing good thing we don't have any of that around."

"Why, what is that stuff? Sarlacc spit?" Dinah wondered, then blinked. "Ooo. Dig a pit? Maybe? With stuff for them to get tangled in at the bottom? It wouldn't have to be too deep, they're just clumsy enough that something shallow would help."

"Yuuzhan Vong bioweapon," Tahiri bit out. Someone was not at her best today. "Like I said, good thing we don't."

She ran a hand through her hair and considered the terrain. "A pit's a good idea, but it'll take too long, and we don't have the tools."

Dinah shot her a look for that, then nodded. "Very good thing." She frowned. "Yeah, you're right, we could get shovels, but it'd take too long. We don't have enough people to do it fast." She sighed, trying to think what else would work, looking around at what they had. "Razor wire, no. Spikes, no." She grabbed a few rocks with her TK and moved them to the top to act as barbs. "Boiling oil, no. Wow, you'd think a castle would have supplies on hand."

"I feel like I'm missing a cultural reference here," Tahiri said. "Can't we get some of the magical types to, I don't know, magic us up a ditch?"

"Ooo. Oooo!" Dinah nearly danced in place, then pointed over to Ronan. "He wrecked the ice rink Geoffrey put into the theater! I bet he could do something!"

And wouldn't that just make Arthur happy?

Not that Arthur's happiness was near the top of Tahiri's list of priorities.

"Think he would? Arthur thinks we should get permission from Principal Washburn first, but --" Tahiri rolled her eyes. "I don't think anyone's introduced him to the concept of bureaucracy."

It was, of course, worth noting that Tahiri's notion of bureaucracy was a little skewed to the extreme.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think Ronan would, and, well. It wouldn't have to be a very *big* ditch, I don't know how much that would take out of him. Just something wide enough to be difficult for the life-challenged to get across, slow them down even more not a five-foot moat with crocodiles." Dinah bit her lip. "Not sure about the rest of it, though. Maybe we should tell Arthur so he can ask."

Dinah's notion of bureaucracy was 'something Barbara gets around and we ignore because it's stupid' but her idea of Rules was 'there's probably a reason.'

"If you want to," Tahiri said, shrugging, "tell him. Easier to fix the landscape than the people we'll lose otherwise, though."

She'd been breaking the rules since she was nine, with Anakin's help. What, you thought she'd stop now?

Dinah came back, looking relieved. "He's going to check. And the barbed wire, too." She bent to pick up more boards and add them to the sides of the barricades. "Have you done this before? I mean. Built up a barrier, then had to wait?"

Tahiri nodded briefly. "I hate the waiting part. Once we've got this all ready to go, I'm thinking I might go scout the perimeter or something."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Want back-up?" Because going off alone, so not a good plan. "I'll go nuts if I'm left here."

"It's just scouting," Tahiri answered. "I've done it alone lots of times."

Truthfully she didn't want Dinah to see her if she lost it at the sight of the zombies again.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"And I know it worked out great those times," Dinah said cautiously. "But, you know. Not wanting to lose anyone else." She swallowed. "Anyway, do you have a phone on you?"
weetuskenraider: (Half-Face WTF Look)

[personal profile] weetuskenraider 2009-04-03 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Comlink," Tahiri said, holding it up. "I already patched your phone into it."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Cool. If I call your phone number, does it forward to yours?" Dinah asked, relieved and wishing she had her Delphi com-set instead of her phone. It'd be nice to have someone on an open network monitoring what was going on.

"Did that last night, when I got home," Tahiri answered. "Seemed like a good idea."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Also good," Dinah agreed. Maybe she wouldn't just follow Tahiri into the woods, if she stayed in contact.

She bit her lip, studying the road in front of them. Maybe, possibly, she could go into town, maybe with someone else, look for people she knew, lock them up somewhere until this was over. Maybe the could fix it?

"I'm not the person who should be telling you not to go anywhere," Tahiri said seriously, looking up at her. "I have no right to say that. Just be careful, whatever you do, okay? I'm not in the mood to lose anyone else."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Dinah gave her a guilty look for her own thoughts, then nodded. "Swear. I'll take someone with me, if I do go. And stay in contact."
weetuskenraider: (Contemplative)

[personal profile] weetuskenraider 2009-04-03 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Will do." Tahiri didn't salute or anything, but the nod she gave Dinah was close enough in spirit. "You too."
