Lobby; All Day [ 04/08 ].

Turtle was up bright and early to set up the table for prom ticket sales, updating the signs a little with a bit more glitter. She had nice and orderly clipboards laid out, especially for the king and queen voting, but there were also various little snacks and treats set out for people to nibble on, too, thanks to Student Council and, of course, Turtle & Canary. Needless to say, they were all being served on Westing Paper Products.

Turtle settled in and got ready to sell some tickets.

Joan and her Wokling stopped by to purchase tickets on her way to lunch.

"Hey, Turtle, how are sales going?"

"So far, so good," Turtle said, unable to keep from staring at the Wokling a little. She shook her head.

"Those things," she decided, "will never cease to freak me out a little."

"Aw, I think he's cute," Joan said. "Can I get two tickets?"

"Cute, but in that kind of creepy way," Turtle felt it necessary to add, before swiping up a few tickets for Joan and letting her know the price, although she probably already knew it. "Who are you going with?"

"Marco," Joan said, bouncing her Wokling on her hip. "Chuck promised to find a sitter for this little guy."

"Oh."

Turtle's face went through a range of expressions, basically making it clear that a great many things passed through her mind just then, none of which she was rude enough to put actual words to. Not that she needed to.

"Well," she concluded, cryptically, "have fun with that."

Joan watched the passing expressions on Turtle's face. "Are you and your boyfriend going?"

Yes, she might have hit a special emphasis on the word boyfriend.

Turtle nodded. "Of course. It'll be Jeff's last school dance."

She could already imagine the choreography he was planning for it, too.

And Turtle was starting to have plans of her own. She was wondering how much it would take to dare Marco to go to prom as a chimp.

"Aw, that's sad. What are you guys going to do after he graduates?" Joan asked.

Okay, so she could have sounded more genuine about that.

Turtle sucked in a little bit of a breath, trying not to let the thoughtful frown show up too much on her face.

As if she hadn't been thinking about it, enough...

"He's going back to London," she said, "his time. Opening up a branch of Turtle & Canary there, while he's going to school, if everything goes to plan."

"Oh, you guys are from different times too? That'll make it even harder, I bet," Joan said.

She would stop being a bitch any day now. Really.

"A-yup," Turtle agreed, carefully trying to avoid saying anything more on the subject.

And definitely resolving to offer Marco practically a thousand dollars if he went to prom as a chimpanzee. She could afford it! The only problem was that she knew it wouldn't be that considerable of a hunk of change for him.

"So...you know, wow," she tried to change the angle of the conversation, "I think this is the first time Marco's ever gone to one of these things with a date, for as long as I've known him. I thought he mostly just went for the food."

"We went to the Valentine's dance together," Joan said. "And Homecoming, actually."

Turtle took a second to try to think back.

"Huh," she realized. "I hadn't noticed."

Joan smiled. "Yeah. Marco's a great guy."

Yup. Definitely bribing him to be a chimp.

Turtle shrugged. "He's pretty cool, I guess. I mean, he is practically my best friend ever."

"I'm really glad that we have another year to be here together," Joan said.

Hey, two could easily play the bitch game.

Turtle arched an eyebrow.

If she was going to be sarcastic, she could at least keep up with the topic at hand.

"So, what, are you and Marco daaaating?"

Joan shrugged. "Sure, I mean, we don't need labels or anything. But we like each other. We hung out on the cruise."

"I just think it's interesting," Turtle said, "that he's never, you know, mentioned anything about that."

"Actions speak louder than words," Joan said. "We've gone to all the major dances, he sent me flowers on Valentine's Day..."

"And he has you buy his tickets for the dance, too," Turtle noted. What a romantic, that Marco.

"I decided to do something nice for him," Joan said. "After all, he stopped by yesterday to show me a video he took on his phone."

Oooh, wow. A video on his phone. Turtle was sure that had just been fascinating.

Actually, around here...?

"Of what?"

"Professor Skywalker singing show tunes."

Yes, that was a smug smile.
