The Lobby -- All Day

Ino, and Weechee who was still crazy-adorable, were up nice and early to get the table for prom ticket sales set up. With king and queen voting even. There was, because this was Ino, various sorts of chocolates set out too.

And a small sign that said ‘free hug (if you want it) with ticket purchase’, because far be it for Ino to pass up a chance to get random hugs. Shush. Besides, she was just a sophomore. If it wasn't for Ichigo, she wouldn't even be able to go, geez. Somehow that totally counted as a valid reason for a hug.

Or something! She didn't really need a reason after all!

"Hey, Ino. How're you doing?" Dinah pushed a strand of hair behind her ear. "One, please."

"Wub wub!" Weechee replied, beaming as much as he could at Dinah.

"What did you do to your nose?" Ino asked, blinking. Oh tact, it was dead today. "And I'm probably better than a lot of people right now, really."

Since she'd managed to miss the zombies. "One ticket," she said, shifting the Wokling to get it, "and did you want a hug?" The sign said so!

"Sure!" Dinah crouched down to Wokling level and grinned. "And, uh. Zombie elbow to the face." She shook her head. "You were gone last week, weren't you? I didn't hear anything about you on the Radio, and I thought I would have." To the Wokling, she said, "Hi, little guy."

Weechee squirmed enough that Ino let him down so he could toddle over to Dinah looking utterly delighted with the attention. "Wub wub!"

"I think he wants up," Ino said, smiling, "he likes to cling, this one. But he's totally sweet. His name is Weechee. And ow, I'm guess it's healing well, at least?" She shook her head. "I was out on a mission, so I totally missed the zombies."

"Yeah, it was a clean break," Dinah admitted. "I might be able to take the bandages off tomorrow." Which would still leave her with two black, bloodshot eyes, but at least there was make-up for that. "Hi, Weechee," Dinah couldn't resist picking him up, and laughing. "I met Leto's little 'assignment' on Tuesday. I'm supposed to babysit this afternoon. And I don't know if you're lucky or not to miss the zombies." She tilted her head and looked considering. "I mean, we're all mostly okay now, but it was kinda traumatic at the time."

"Awwwwwww. Well, they're pretty sweet, I think. You'll have fun! Wendy gets to take him tomorrow afternoon on. I'm going to miss him." That got a bit of a shrug. "I don't know if I would've been any help," Ino replied. "I doubt I'd have taken it seriously."

"I mean, I think only once since I've been here has someone actually died?" she said, considering that. "So I'd have probably guessed that it'd wear off, or something." It was Fandom, things wore off.

"You're kidding?" Dinah boggled a bit, then said, "You're not kidding. Wow. I'm ... kinda impressed. Sheesh." She hugged Weechee, who squealed and hugged her back. "I was fighting, mostly. And helping set fire to things. And being totally worried about all my zombie friends." She shook her head. "What's the worst, the real worst, that's happened since you got here?"

It really was an impressive track record, considering what all happened on the island.

Ino thought about that. "I think being sick with the plague was the worst, physically," she said slowly, "that's the one where someone actually died, and several other people were in the hospital for, like, a week after still recovering. But being trapped in the past for seven months was kinda worse. It was only a week for everyone who stayed here, but for me, seven months passed and I was, after the first week, all alone in Paris, a century ago." One eye slid shut in a quick wink. "Guess who speaks rather out-dated French now?" And a bit of Italian too. "That was harder mentally, I think, coming back and having to readjust."

"Sound like it," Dinah said soberly, considering that. "How'd you get by? Did you find a job somewhere? And how did they fix it?" So people had died on the island; it wasn't a sure thing that no one ever would. And getting stuck for half a year in the past didn't sound like a picnic either.

"They got a message through," she said, "telling us to head to this place, where we'd be frozen or something 'til our real time came 'round again. So I guess I really spent a century asleep?" Something like that.

She hitched one shoulder. "No job, officially anyway," Ino admitted, "but I put a lot of my training to use. Not so much with the legal side of things. First week I spent making sure a few others had, like, weapons and some cash, then we parted." She was pretty sure Romeo still had the gun she'd gotten him.

Ino had been a terribly effective pick-pocket/cat-burglar.

"Right, ninja." That would *always* get you work, no matter what the century, which was good to think about. "Ohhhh, weiiird. So you're really a hundred and something?" Dinah bounced the wokling on her hip to make it squee, then grinned. "I'm glad you got rescued, though, even though it took a while."

"Ha!" She rolled her eyes cheerfully at that. "I mean, yes, ninja. And I guess you could say I'm that old, but I'd really rather not be. Fifteen is totally good enough for me, and if I add my spare seven months, I'm totally sixteen."

A beat.

"Though that messes with my birthday, definitely."

Dinah snickered. "When is your birthday normally?"

"Dinah, right?" Jack asked Dinah. "I never forget a pretty girl." Even if she had had something happen to her face since last he saw her.

"Jack!" Dinah brightened, then rolled her eyes, blushing a little. "Yeah, um. There was an invasion. Jill probably didn't tell you." Or hid in her room the whole time. "Is she out again already? I thought that was closer to the end of the month. Welcome back, though."

"Yeah." Jack rolled his eyes. "Zombies. 'Oh, no,'" he continued in a horrible falsetto. "'It's just makeup.' But, uh, yeah." He shrugged and ran one hand over his very short hair. You know. Like Jill's. "The schedule seems to be out the window. She'll be so mad if she misses the prom." He seemed to relish the idea.

"Mmmm," Dinah had to agree, thinking how long Jill had been looking forward to this. "I should call her, see how she is... Do you think she'll make it back in time?"

"Uh, she's kind of out of contact," Jack said. "But I don't know, she might." She totally wouldn't. "I was thinking I might crash. Don't tell the ticket girl," he said, leaning toward Dinah conspiratorially.

Dinah snickered, and dropped her voice a little. "Ino would go ninja on you for that. Not telling. Don't worry."

"Cool, cool." Jack suddenly had a brilliant idea. Really. Jill would freak. "Although, you know, I bet I wouldn't have to crash if I had a date who was a student..."

"Well, sure, you're allowed to take someone as long as they're not really old...." Dinah'd gotten so used to the idea that she wouldn't have a date for Prom, that this was taking a minute to sink in. "Um. That was a hint? Right?" Please?

Jack laughed. "That was a hint. Wanna take it? Or do I need to be more straightforward? You're pretty and I'm single. Wanna go to prom with me?"

"Yay! I mean, yes! Sure. Cool." Dinah bounced on her toes for a second, totally gleeful. Jack was cute and funny and hey, just said he was single right there! Woo! "Thanks for asking, I was all set to go by myself. This'll be great!"

"Great!" Jack said. "I'll pick you up at...uh. Your room? Whichever one that is."

"Oh, 312. Right, you and Jill don't talk much." Dinah looked pensive a moment, then said, "She'll probably be upset I'm going with you, if she can't make it back, hunh?" Not that that changed her mind. Jill really needed to learn to deal.
