There was a huge pile of stuff on the bed in alcove A1, because with a day free of classes, Francine had figured she might as well schlep her things over at a leisurely pace.

You know what wasn't in the huge pile of stuff on the bed in alcove A1? The marshmallows. Or the Hershey bars. Or the graham crackers.

Or Francine, because she was out by the campfire trying to get it started. Putting away her huge pile of stuff could wait. There were s'mores to be gobbled made.

"I think I'll stick with Goos--soccer. Less sticks to the head."

"Hey, man, soccer can get vicious, too. I've watched the European championships. You got people flipping in the air and landing on their heads."

"I know. I've seen some wild things in play myself. But there's still no sticks."

"This is true. I'm pretty sure the goal in lacrosse isn't to actually hit each other, though."

"If the goal is like most sports, 'accidentally' hitting people was probably rather common though. It is to score, and the opposing team can't play as well if they've been hit with a stick."

"Well, that depends on if the referees are looking your way or not." Priestly shrugged. "But, yeah, pretty much any sport can be turned into a war metaphor. Except maybe cricket."
