Main Campfire, Monday Evening

Since his first class was tomorrow, Alex decided to venture out of his cabins (seriously, CABINS) to the main campfire. He almost expected some counselor to already be there, guitar in hand, asking him to sing Kumbaya. Mercifully, the main campfire was devoid of anything but a few logs and the actual fire.

Alex took a seat and tossed his cigarettes next to him. He'd need those shortly, he was sure. For now, he was just going to enjoy the quiet and the mild weather.

He'd survived three days in this place so far. He was hesitant to call that a win.

Fire was good.

Fiona's day had been a mix of good and bad, a first day among first days. Her first class had been very instructional, her time at the salle had been... interesting. Then there'd been shopping.

Feeling a little like an overstimulated lab rat, she settled on one of the logs and wrapped her arms around herself to just watch the flames and digest. There was a glance at the other person there, but mostly just to let him know she knew he was there.

Alex could do cursory glances. He was a pro at them. So, he glanced over at Fiona before looking away and picking up the pack of cigarettes and opening them.

He still wasn't singing Kumbaya.

Agnes watched Fiona watching the fire. "Bad day?" she asked.

Ben had finished doing a circuit of the camp--old habits died hard--and he gave a small nod to the unfamiliar face at the campfire.

"Hello."

This one looked like he was twelve. No way he was a counselor. "Hey." Unless he had dwarfism or something. Still. "You a counselor?"

Might as well just ask.

She looked up at the new arrival but didn't say anything.

Agnes nodded at Ben. She hadn't spoken to him much -- ever? she couldn't remember -- but he was a familiar face. "Did everything go smoothly on Saturday?" she asked.

Valentine had to give Ben a little wave when she spotted him there; she tilted her head a little as if to questioningly look if Ender was with him, although it was mostly just a show. She'd notice Ender first out of anyone in a crowd.

First night down in the cabins, and strangely enough, Angela was not feeling the need to just hang around her own alcove. She hadn't even unpacked and it was... kind of empty feeling.

So, people. Main campfire generally meant people. She offered a grin at the guy already there, and a pretty upbeat, "Evening," as she wandered over.

He could muster a grin for a pretty girl, no problem. "Hey. Did I send a smoke signal or something?"

Agnes smiled at Angela. "Hello."

Roommates, cabins, and campfires were all a bit out of her realm of experience. But no one could say that Serena didn't know how to try to fit in. Even if her sweatshirt and shorts were designer, she looked close enough to everyone else here. Didn't she?

"I thought there were supposed to be marshmallows at these things," she said in an amused aside.

Penelope was rather excited by the prospect of a campfire, so of course the first evening she was there, she ventured towards the main one with a bag of marshmallows tucked under her arm, and in her hand a stick.

Seeing people already there, she lowered her head and settled herself on one of the logs where she began to ready a marshmallow to roast.

Another quiet one. This place seemed to rock from extremely happy to extremely quiet. Whatever.

Alex glanced over, watched her for a moment before turning his attention back to the fire.

Fiona watched her with the stick and the marshmallow, curious as to what she might be doing.

Agnes smiled at waved at Penelope. She'd NO idea how to break the poor girl's curse, and so it was easier to try and pretend like nothing was wrong, but hard to actually TALK to her, and... She just sat there and felt awkward, and hated herself for it.

"Carev, didn't think they could pry you outta the dorms," Griff said, deciding to engage his roommate and not just walk away like a smarter man might do.

"Do you need me to tattoo my last name on your ass?" Alex asked, not even glancing up.

"So, are you gonna start the campfire songs?" Ellie smirked when she spotted Alex. She took a seat on a nearby log.

"I'm getting warmed up," he said, making a show of warming his hands with the fire. "Soon, soon. We'll join hands and get the party going."

Well, she'd missed the picnic, but she could still make an effort to be social. Agnes walked over to the main campfire and waved at all the new people sitting there. "Hello."

Jesus, there were a lot of people here. "Hey." She hadn't bounced at him, at least.

Valentine had considered just camping out in alcove for a while with her desk...no, laptop...for a while, but realized that it wasn't exactly in the spirit of things, was it? A crowd was gathering at the center of the camp, and so she decided maybe she'd go and check it out, even if she didn't really talk much.

And, if anything, she could always just watch the fire.

Alex looked up at the newest arrival, thankful that she wasn't staring or bouncing. So, she got a nod. See, he could be polite.

For Eleanor, the past few days had been a whirlwind; arriving to school, the picnic, unpacking, re-packing (which left her wondering about the sanity of the school officials, really) and then class already.

The cabins weren't unpleasant, but not quite what she'd been hoping for either. She much rather preferred the dormitories. But the large campfire was friendly and she took a seat on a log nearby, already feeling more at ease.

Hardly a surprise that fire was calming to a Fire Mage.

She nodded in polite greeting to the others already there.

And yet more people. At least most of them were girls. He could do with the nice view.

So, he nodded back. No offering anything up to people he didn't know.

If Morgana had been given a roommate, she hadn't yet arrived, and while dressing herself had taken some getting used to, she'd managed it well enough, and found that she quite liked the dorm. The cabins, however, were an entirely different story. As many people as there were in the castle at home at any given time, her room had always given her a sense of privacy. Her alcove did no such thing here, and it wasn't long before Morgana was headed back outside into the fresh air.

Noticing the fire, she went over and smiled at the gentleman sitting there. "Good evening," she said.

Girls were apparently attracted to him.

Or his campfire.

He preferred the first one.

"Hey," he said, nodding. "Evening to you too."

It didn't take Zayne long to move his belongings into his cabin since, well, it's not like he had many belongings to move. And so he had plenty of time to come out to the main campfire and meet people.

He nodded to the people who had already gathered and said, "Hi. How is everyone tonight?"

The last time Gabrielle had seen a fire this big, with this many people gathered, it had been a funeral pyre.

Also, there had been scantily clad Amazons dancing around it.

"Is this some kind of ritual?" she asked curiously.
