James A. Garfield common area, Tuesday morning

Moving to the cabins had been entirely unexpected and somewhat distressing for Raven. She had been prepared to share her room with another, but so many people so close together was disconcerting, and it was hard to shut things out. Last night she'd felt an almost overwhelming surge of desire coming from one of the other cabins, but fortunately it abruptly stopped.

She didn't have any classes on Tuesday, and after her morning meditations, she ventured into the common room to see who else might be dwelling there.

Joan returned from her class, still a little stunned by the whole thing, and dropped her bag in her alcove before going to the common area to grab a soda.

"Oh, hey," she said. "I'm Joan. I don't think we've met."

"Nice to meet you," Joan said, with a smile. She grabbed a soda from the fridge. "You want one?"

Kenshin sat with his back to the wall, somewhat less than comfortable without his sword. He had been sorely tempted to spend the night outside, on the roof (especially with girls in the same cabin! The people in charge here had no sense of propriety!), but in the end, he hadn't.

Not that he had slept much in any case.

He had no classes today, and so found himself at loose ends for the moment.

"Soda," Joan said. "Err, or depending on where you're from: pop, Coke, soft drink, fizzy drinks..."

"Good morning," he replied quietly, giving her a slight nod.

Joan was wondering how she ended up in a cabin of almost entirely new people, but she smiled.

"Hi, I'm Joan," she said. "You must be new."

Wow, two in two days. "I like it," she said. "It's kind of sweet and bubbly. Want to try one?"

[identity profile] saikyou-no.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah, yes," he replied, looking up at her.

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Do you have a name?" Joan asked, trying to recall the names of all of her cabinmates and failing.

Joan smiled and opened the can. She poured it into a plastic cup she found in one of the cabinets because she didn't want Rachel to be confused by the can.

"Here," she said, handing over the cup.

"Himura. You?"

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Joan. Joan Girardi," she said. "How are you adjusting to Fandom?"

[identity profile] saikyou-no.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
The question made him scowl.

"Everything here is strange."

[identity profile] saikyou-no.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Himura," he replied. Another strange name, hard to pronounce.

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"I like it," Joan agreed. "There are a bunch of different flavors. That's regular cola."

So she was in a cabin full of new people who were from very different places. This could get interesting.

"There are people here from so many different places," she agreed. "Is there anything I can help you with?"

A million things.

But most importantly...

"I can't read or write-" he hesitated "-English?" He was pretty sure that's what Ben had said it was.

Well, what do you know. Joan had some experience with that.

"My roommate can't either," she told him. "My dorm roommate, that is. I have some stuff that I've been using to help her. Maybe I can help you too."
