Main Campfire, Tuesday Evening

Alex felt restless enough to emerge from his alcove and head out to the main campfire again. It was easier to both smoke and stay warm since it'd gotten weirdly cold over the last few days. Whatever. He was from Iowa. He was used to this type of weather.

Didn't mean he would pass up a fire.

So, he slouched down against a log, crossing his feet at the ankle and leaning back to blow smoke into the air. It was the second week of classes and, amazingly, they weren't going that badly. Of course, considering the classes, Alex didn't know how they could go badly.

He'd take the good news while he could. It didn't happen often.

[campfires are open things!]

Turtle was thinking she should work on Zack's medal, but she didn't have the glitter yet for it, so she figured she didn't have to feel guilty about just doing the campfire thing yet again.

"Hiiii, everyone!" she greeted no one and everyone in particular.

"Well, it's camp," Turtle shrugged as she plopped down on a log. "The meeting people at fires thing is sort of a given."

"Oh, I'm sure you're plenty special," Turtle said, rolling her eyes. "...although now that you mention it, you do seem to be at a lot of the fires I wind up at."

"Or it could just be, you know, the fire."

"Now I know it's just the fire," said Turtle with a snort.

"Oh, yeah?" Turtle asked. "Coincidence is not something."

Unless he meant the pregnant hunchback thing.

In which case, he was going to get kicked.

"What if you don't believe in fate?"

Turtle shook her head. "I believe much more in coincidences," she said. "And even those aren't as coincidental as they may seem sometimes. I also don't like thinking that anything is in control of my destiny besides me."

"A realist," Turtle said, nodding.

"Er, I think?"

"I wouldn't say I put that much thought into it," said Turtle. "I mean, I don't just sit there and think, 'Do I believe in fate? Hm, no, I don't think I do. I think I'm a realist. I like being in charge of my own destiny.' It's all just stuff that's kind of there."

She paused, slightly.

"I don't have time to usually just sit there and think crap like that, actually."

"Campfires aren't just campfires, though," Turtle said. "They're very important networking opportunities."

"A very successful nerd," Turtle pointed out importantly.

A very rich successful nerd at that.
