LBJ Campfire, Thursday Night

Sometime during the day, Sam had come to a sad realization - he hadn't had nearly enough s'mores for the amount of time they'd been out at the cabins. When the evening rolled around and the sun finally went down, he lit the cabin's campfire and set himself up with all the necessary supplies, to cook for himself and for anyone else who sat down.

It wasn't long before he figured out that his marshmallow roasting stick was also good for keeping tiny moose away from the fire. It was kind of amazing how this place still found ways to weird him out, even after all this time.

"That sounds" incredibly violent "like a game the males I know back home would play." Although they'd probably need rules to prevent the Warlord Princes from rising to the killing edge everytime they flung themselves at one another.

Annd since there was no force powerful enough to enforce that rule, Karla decided she probably wouldn't be the witch to introduce it to Kaeleer. "Is this a popular past time then?"

"It is in this country. And it's fun enough. But I've kind of moved on."

"And to the theater?" she asked. "Though, if this is your first time in a theatrical--I'm sorry, play--then what do you do for fun at Fandom."

Shh! Don't tell, but Karla's 'secretly' trolling for ideas, without looking completely ignorant.

"Well, I work at the diner. I'm kinda learning how to be a short order cook in my spare time, you know? Sandwiches -- especially sandwiches -- burgers, fries, comfort food stuff. And I'm on the cheerleading squad -- which is weird, 'cause we don't have any sports to lead the cheers for, but it's pretty cool either way. And I'm thinking of starting a roller derby league."

Karla wrinkled her nose. "I think I'm the only person on this island who can't cook. And I'm not entirely certain what burgers and fries are, but comfort food sounds nice. And, now for more questions, if you don't mind: what does your...squad? do, if you don't cheer for sports, and what's a roller derby?"

"We cheer for cheer's sake? It's all kind of meta. And a roller derby is . . . well, it's this sport you play on skates -- wheels on your feet. And you crash into each other and skate around and call yourselves by funky names and wear crazy costumes."

Priestly wasn't entirely sure of the exact rules of roller derby yet, actually.

"Well, it certainly sounds" bizarre "interesting. At home, we have a different idea of skates. In the winter, we put blades on our feet and go skating over ponds that have frozen over."

"Ice skates. Yeah, we've got those here, too. Roller skates are for when it's not cold out."
