Magical Reserve - Behind the Cabins, Friday

There was a distinct lack of cauldrons to give this sort of gathering a magic-y sort of credibility. There was, however, some biscuits picked up from JGoB.

And some tea. Because it calmed his nerves on ~~being back in the damned woods~~ gathering people like himself all together in one place. There was always the possibility that one of them would try to kill Arthur. Simple facts of life, that.

He rather hoped that wouldn't be the case at all.

Esme had no idea what a magical reserve was supposed to be, and she couldn't say she approved if it was what she thought it might be, but she was curious.

And there was tea and biscuits, so obviously someone knew how things were supposed to go and therefore it was off to a good start.

"Miss Weatherwax," her putative roommate said from near her side. (He was Victorian. He could call her Miss for years.) "Good day. Have you a moment?"

She did. And she approved of the Miss. "I suppose," she said with a thoughtful nod.

"I'm going home for the weekend," Jack told her. "I'll be back Monday, but it may be late in the day. That's the day we move back to the dorm room."

He paused there, hoping he wouldn't have to draw a large diagram labeled, DO NOT TAKE OVER MY SPACE IF I'M NOT THERE WHEN YOU MOVE BACK. (She'd already claimed the better side of the room. It was entirely feasible.)

"I'll be sure not to expect you back early then," she decided. "Are you sure you want to return here?" She had to check, in case she could possibly take over the room at all.

[*dies*]

"I do still need to finish my education," Jack said mildly. "Yes, I'll be back."

[*g* You have no idea how much I love that he has a roommate he can't charm.]

"I was just asking if you'd decided on someplace else," Esme replied as if it was nothing. "This place might drive some people off."

"It might," Jack acknowledged. "Not me, quite yet. Are you thinking about going?"

Hey. Maybe he would get the room to himself.

"I will go when it's time to go, and not a second before," she assrured him. Cryptically.

It was cryptic, Jack would give her that. "How would you know when that is?" he asked, trying not to give her the impression he was rushing her off; it just seemed logical.

She had no idea. "I'll just know, I suppose," she shrugged. "No sense wondering about it till then."

"I suppose not," Jack said. "Are you settling in all right, then?"

Truth be told, Esme hadn't even tried. She was learning what she could, and expected everyone else to settle with her. "Well enough." And then she realized she should probably ask, "And yourself?"

"Better than I had hoped," Jack said. "I think I'm finding friends, and my classes are pleasant. I don't so much care for the cabins, but that's all but over."

Oh, the... rather unhappy woman from the party was there. "Were you interested in joining?" He asked, trying once again.

Oh, it was the boy with the ear issues. "That depends," she replied. "What's this for, exactly?"

They weren't ear issues! Okay, so perhaps they were. But that was hardly the point here.

"It's in case we're attacked by something again. A bit like a militia, I suppose."

Esme frowned. "You want an army of magic-users?" This was more a cause of concern to her than the bit about getting attacked.

"Well... I wouldn't say an army. If only because... that would by like herding angry cats if all the people who had arrived were going to stay. "A bit more organized than just a few people who are trying not to get killed, I suppose."

"I don't see it working," she told him. "Egos get in the way."

Said by she with the ego that could eat Manhattan, if it were so inclined.

"We won't know that until we try," Merlin insisted. Because he was naive like that.
