Fifth floor common room, Saturday evening

After detention there had been some time to check messages and figure out if there was anything she needed to catch up on after spending her morning cleaning up alligator parts, and then she'd gone for the second shower. Her priorities were a bit skewed, but 'ew' was 'ew'.

Since she had some time on her hands, she settled into the common room of her apparently adopted floor with popcorn and her comlink on the table in front of her, flipping through channels and being really glad that Scifi's monster movies tonight had nothing to do with lizards.

"Nope," he grinned. "What are we watching, anyway?"

"Something really bad," she said. "They show the name on the screen a hundred times an hour but I haven't cared that much."

"So you're staring and waiting for the comm to ring?" John asked, generally content with the popcorn.

"Pretty much. I didn't have a lot of messages after detention so I'm hoping they're not just waiting," she explained.

"They're waiting for you to get busy doing actual fun things," John replied.

"They are. It's like they haven't heard me curse enough." That so was not possible.

"Maybe they really like hearing you curse." There were certainly times he did. "Or just really miss that bossy tone you get."

"No, I think that's you," she said. Mainly because if the guys she worked with started liking that tone of hers... well, they'd be Jag, and John probably wouldn't like that much.

And he would glare a lot if Jag got to the point of liking it. "Yeah...that is me," he kicked his feet up on the table and leaned back, pleased with himself.

"Why do you look like you're showing off?" she laughed.

"I am just pleased to be here, holding your popcorn," John smiled. He was full of himself.

"You're lucky I let you," Jaina grinned, reaching over for another handful.

"I won't point out you're the one camped out on my floor," he grinned.

"Maybe I just like your floor." She saw no real difference in any of the floors.

"Because I'm here." So smug.

"I could go downstairs," Jaina pointed out.

"But you then you wouldn't have me around," he reminded her.

"You wouldn't follow?" Not that she would go, because if he followed that would probably lead to traumatizing Valentine and it had only been a week in the room.

"You have a roommate," he made a face of disapproval. At least Inara had not been much for the room.

"Which is why I'm not actually going anywhere," she assured him. Maybe she was predictable that way.

"Maybe I should wander off and see if you follow," John suggested.

Jaina shrugged. "I think you know how that would go."

Meaning, she'd wait about two minutes before doing so, just to make him wonder.

"I think I know. But it'll depend on how bored you are," he knew that, too.

"You think you know me so well." Which he did.

After this long, I would hope I do or they're gonna take away the grant for my book," he teased.
