Fourth Floor Common Room, Saturday Evening (6:45 on)

After oh so handwavey lightsaber training and some time down at the shooting range, like yesterday hadn't been practice enough, Tahiri had gone back up to her room to find a message from home waiting for her, asking if she could look over the file that had been sent to her datapad and give them some feedback. She felt a little guilty about taking her sweet time about it, the last few times she'd been asked to provide some insight on the Yuuzhan Vong perspective, but she decided that she could use some background noise in the process, and bad sci-fi movies weren't the kind she was looking for.

So she headed one floor down with her datapad in hand, staked a claim on the couch, and turned the TV on, flipping through random channels. Halfway through the sports channels she caught a bit of a pregame show.

" -- Los Angeles Sol squaring off against the Saint Louis Athletica, with a pair of national team superstars in goal: Canada's Karina LeBlanc for the Sol, and for the Athletica, U.S. Olympic gold medalist Hope Solo . . ."

Tahiri took her thumb off the channel-up button.

". . . what?"

[OOC: I was supposed to be at this game today. I have only been looking forward to this game all season. My car is in the shop and won't be ready in time. This game is not actually being televised, and I am cranky about that, but by god I am gonna mod a broadcast to make myself feel better about it. Also, if you think I've been looking for an excuse to do this forever you would be right. Open like a common room, and I'm a dork but I'll gladly admit it.]

Hurley entered the commmon room and paused.

"...aren't we on the wrong floor?" he said.

"Jaina's using the TV up there." Tahiri was still staring at the TV, just a touch slackjawed.

"Right," he said. "So, uhh, what're you watching?"

"Some sport that involves kicking a ball around a really huge field." Tahiri waved the remote at the screen. "I have no idea how this works actually -- no no no no no, don't let that in -- yes!"

"You've never seen soccer before?" Hurley said. "Man, you've been missing out."

"I don't channel surf much," Tahiri replied, watching as the team in the dark blue jerseys set up for a corner kick. "But I'm rooting for the team in white."

"Just because?" Hurley said.

"The one over there in the -- clear it clear it get it out of there! -- gloves and padding, standing in front of the net thing?" Tahiri pointed at the edge of the screen. "Her name's Hope Solo. I kind of feel obligated."

"Obligated?" Hurley said, not quite following.

"Solo," Tahiri said again, like it should be obvious (what? It was to her). "It could be a coincidence, but from this angle she looks almost like a taller version of Jaina . . ."

"Ohhhh," Hurley said. "I get it now. You don't think she's a Jedi, do you?"

"That would be weird. But if you're supposed to be stopping the shots you have to have good reflexes, right?"

Tahiri's brain was a weird place sometimes. Okay, it was a weird place all the time, just usually in a different way.

"Yeah," Hurley said. "It'd almost not be fair."

"Really kind of not," Tahiri agreed. "That was just kind of . . . unexpected. Names in my your galaxy are so weird. What were the odds?"

"Names in my galaxy are weird?" Hurley said.

"Yes," Tahiri replied, completely straight-faced. Hey. Certain points of view and all that, you know.

"Your name is Tahiri," Hurley said. "Pretty, yeah. But also kinda out of the ordinary."

"Your name is Hurley," she countered. "Okay, that almost sounds like a normal name, but it's your nickname so it doesn't count."

"And Hugo is totally weird?"

Pause.

"Okay, yeah, it kinda is."

Tahiri quirked an eyebrow and smirked at him. "See?"

"I guess this is one of those... different cultures things," Hurley said.

"Hey," Rose said with a smile as she came into the CR and saw Tahiri. She went over to the fridge to try to find something to eat then glanced at the tv. "...they televise soccer?"

"Why wouldn't they?" Hurley greeted the girl he hadn't met.
