There wasn't enough facepalming in the world to cover what had gone on over the past few days. That was why Edmund was in complete denial. Instead of dying of embarrassment, he was sitting on the floor in the common room, occasionally eating from a bowl of increasingly soggy cereal and trying to reply to a letter he'd received.

And now Rose did reach way far over, meaning to ruffle his hair. "I'm so proud."

Edmund sat there and allowed it, trying to look decidedly unamused, but failing. "The sugar cereal must have gone to my head."

"I hope not," Rose teased. "Cause now my hand would be all sticky."

"Do you have a better explanation?"

"Of course," she said haughtily. "My natural charm."

"Oh, of course," Ed replied dryly, leaning back against the lounge chair at his back. "That must be it. How could I have overlooked that?"
