"Okay!" Zack grinned as he bounced to the forefront of today's reserves meeting, more than happy to be able to take the reins today.

It meant that he got to be all responsible, or something. He was game for the challenge!

"Today we're going to focus on familiarizing ourselves with weapons that we might have never considered using! Because, let's face it, sometimes the unspeakable happens and we get caught in a jam without anything readily at our disposal but what we can grab from nearby. Either someone else is down for the count and you make do with their weapon, or you end up swinging around whatever you can reach. Being able to improvise is just as important as being a master of your weapon of choice."

"A broomstick can be a staff," said Arthur, who had no experience with that kind of thing. At all. Really. "Any sharp object can be thrown. Anything with an edge can be used as a dagger or a sword, provided you know how to use one, and where to look. I assume you all have eyes."

"And that's why our pile-o-stuff today is more than just the practise weapons we've been using," Zack agreed, putting his hands on his hips and grinning at the people gathered. "If you look close enough, you'll be able to find pretty much anything from bags of marbles to the kitchen sink. Grab something you'd never think of using otherwise, pair up, and put those weapons to use!"

Zack, of course, was making a grab for that random beach umbrella, there.

Arthur, meanwhile, was going for the broom. For no reason. Really.

"Oh, I'm merely containing my rejoicing to a healthy degree," he told her. "Did you have any questions?"

"I always have questions," she assured him. "Whether or not they're any sort you'd care to hear is an entirely different thing."

Probably.

"What'd I miss?"

"Many things of consequence," Arthur said, glancing across at the people there. "But I suppose you'll have to catch up somehow."

Okay, it was possible he was just looking for someone to mess with right now.

She put her hands on her hips and tried to stare him down (up?) at that.

"Such as?"

"Weaponry you're not used to," he replied, after bargaining with himself over whether or not there would be a point to making fun of her further. "A lot like today, but with the aid of your fellow students."

She squinted at him. "...we were invaded?"

And she'd missed it?

One day, Ino would bother with the radio. One day.

"I... didn't say that," Arthur said, after a slight pause, "I believe the alligators were our last invasion for a short while, beyond the island's usual madness."

He was suddenly getting really horrible mental images of what could've happened had he run across Ino. He managed not to look vaguely queasy.

. . . Ino would be equally horrified, had what his narrative was implying had had any chance of happening.

"Weaponry I'm not used to?" Ino parroted back to him, managing to get his inflection and tone down. "So, what then? Impromptu battles for fun?"

"Showing each other the worth of different classes of weapon," he elaborated, trying valiantly not to roll his eyes at her. "Depending on our proficiencies. I think we have Fight Club for impromptu battles."

She waved one hand dismissively at him. "How many people actually did the assignment? And that's totally not answering my question, oh valiant leader."

A beat.

"And Fight Club is totally not impromptu." Totally. Not.

"Several," Arthur said, and raised an eyebrow, "And that's answering your question as you asked it. That's what we did last week."

And anything else she really shouldn't want to know about.

"You know," she said, a bit plaintively, "that's not entirely useful. I was here last week, remember, for the meeting--so what'd I miss doesn't count that."

"It's the only useful information you should be able to get about last week," he said, simply. "The island wasn't in a useful mood."

"All information is useful," she scolded him. "Even if not immediately so."

If only because Ino liked hording bits of information.

"Trust me, there are some exceptions to that," he said, dryly.

She stuck her tongue out at him. "That's why you're the leader," Ino pointed out, "and I'm the spy. Don't worry, I forgive your failings."

"I don't have that many failings," Arthur informed her, "But I'm grateful. Now carry on and put yourself to work."

"Yes, yes," she said tolerantly. "Getting to it."
