"Okay!" Zack grinned as he bounced to the forefront of today's reserves meeting, more than happy to be able to take the reins today.

It meant that he got to be all responsible, or something. He was game for the challenge!

"Today we're going to focus on familiarizing ourselves with weapons that we might have never considered using! Because, let's face it, sometimes the unspeakable happens and we get caught in a jam without anything readily at our disposal but what we can grab from nearby. Either someone else is down for the count and you make do with their weapon, or you end up swinging around whatever you can reach. Being able to improvise is just as important as being a master of your weapon of choice."

"A broomstick can be a staff," said Arthur, who had no experience with that kind of thing. At all. Really. "Any sharp object can be thrown. Anything with an edge can be used as a dagger or a sword, provided you know how to use one, and where to look. I assume you all have eyes."

"And that's why our pile-o-stuff today is more than just the practise weapons we've been using," Zack agreed, putting his hands on his hips and grinning at the people gathered. "If you look close enough, you'll be able to find pretty much anything from bags of marbles to the kitchen sink. Grab something you'd never think of using otherwise, pair up, and put those weapons to use!"

Zack, of course, was making a grab for that random beach umbrella, there.

Arthur, meanwhile, was going for the broom. For no reason. Really.

A flick of her wrist wrapped the end around the not-a-sword and she used to to yank at his sword. The edge she'd put on the thing scraped at the braided rope, but wasn't sharp enough for much more in such soft metal.

Kenshin went with it for a moment, before abruptly changing the direction of his motion, blurring with speed for a moment.

She ducked down before pulling in a different direction.

He leapt into the air, in an attempt to counteract that pull. The rope arced dangerously between them.

She spun away and chopped at the rope with her hand, using the perpendicular force to unhook the jumprope from the not-a-sword.

Kenshin finished his leap, landing in a low stance on the other side of her. He didn't even pause for balance or a breath before charging again.

The other end of the jumprope went into her other hand and she started skipping rope fast enough to be a blur. If he stuck his 'sword' in that, she'd have a hold on it again.

He could see enough to read that, and darted off to the side at the last second, to stop just outside her range.

He needed a secondary weapon, something to counter that spin of rope.

She turned to face him before jumping back and stopping the rope to behind her.

He shifted slightly to the right, his 'sword' held at a low guard, testing her response.

She watched him, but didn't move much except for a slight movement of one leg.

He paused again, shifted his own leg back, lowering his stance slightly. He was very aware of how far he was from the pile; he hoped that there was something there to use as a secondary weapon.

Her eyes flicked to Kenshin, then to the pile, then back. She set her stance a little lower as well, though she was expecting Kenshin to try and go above her.

In the second that her eyes flicked, he moved, blurring across the space between them.

She didn't even think; she just moved, launching herself at him to get him down.

It was so completely unexpected that it actually caught him off-guard; he was only able to half dodge, and the impact knocked him to the ground.

He tried to use the momentum to push her off, to get away.
