Over the weekend, the NPC construction staff had installed all the plumbing that was needed for the various things being installed and were just finishing up some preliminary wiring when Fraser and the students arrived.

"As you can see, we're just about ready to start transforming this floor into something that resembles the other floors in the building. The construction staff are doing some wiring work so your job for today is to complete some minor yet important tasks. Screwing in the protective coverings of wall sockets and light switches, touching up the paint around the trim, checking to make sure all the plumbing works, making certain that everything will be accessible as the walls are standing now and to begin moving materials for the next phase from the ground floor up here."

See, not too hard, right?

"Safety first and remember not to put your fingers in wall sockets. That will not be pleasant."

It's Monday morning. Don't you just hate that?

Peter didn't mind working around the wall sockets. He figured if he accidentally got zapped he'd manage to survive it.

But now it's lunch time! Take a break and eat some foooood!

Sam had donuts, sandwiches, and drinks for Peter again, and smiled as he watched him finish up.

Peter smiled when he saw Sam. He finished what he was doing and then went to join him. "Hey there."

"Hey," Sam said, leaning over to give Peter a kiss on the cheek. "Are you hungry?"

"Starving," Peter told him. "You came at the right time."

"Oh good," Sam said. He handed Peter one of the sandwiches, and sat down to dig into the donuts first. "It's definitely coming along up here. It's going to look awesome when you guys are done."

"Thanks," Peter said. He took a healthy bite of his sandwich. "It's kind of fun in a way. Not saying I'd do it every day, but it's nice to pick up new skills. Skills that don't have to do with powers."

"And it's good that you're picking it up here," Sam said, smirking. "Somehow, I can't see you getting to work on renovations at home."

"Never know," Peter said. "I can't see myself in a soulless modern apartment, you know?"

"That's true. You could do a lot with a place of your own," Sam replied, smiling. "I kind of like the thought of that."

"Could help me pick a place out," Peter suggested, hoping he wasn't pushing his luck.

Sam couldn't hide how surprised he was to hear that idea. "I could? I mean, you'd want me to?"

"Sure," Peter said. He raked his hair out of his eyes. "I mean - you'll be visiting a lot. I'd want it to feel like home."

"I'd love to help," Sam said, grinning. "Although I'm pretty sure any place you are would feel like home, regardless of how it looks."

"Still," Peter said. "It's really important to me that you - "

And then Peter had a problem finishing his sentence, because he'd suddenly turned into a rabbit.

A rabbit with emo bangs.

That was so not how Peter had anticipated the conversation as going.

Sam stared at the rabbit for a moment, wondering if Peter had picked up a new trick without realizing it, or without telling him. "Um, Peter? What the hell?"

Peter tried to indicate hell if he knew as best he could given that he was a bunny. This resulted in him twitching his nose and ears in a bunnily befuddled manner.

"Awww," Sam said, because good god that was adorable. He reached over to try to push Peter's hair (fur?) out of his eyes, but try as he might, it just fell right back into place. "Something tells me you're not going to be much help for construction this afternoon."

Fortunately sighing was still something he could do, bunny or not.

He could also try to cuddle in Sam's lap, even if he couldn't appreciate the closeness the way he normally would.

Sam was glad to pick Peter up and give him a careful hug, even if it wasn't quite the same. "I've seen this happen before. It'll be okay," he said. "I'll take care of you until you're okay again, I promise."

Peter believed that. He tried to indicate his confidence in Sam by nuzzling Sam's cheek with his wriggling nose.

Sam snickered and hugged Peter a little tighter. "It helps that you turned into something cute, that's for sure."

Don't eat too much because you gotta go back to work!

The sunrise was pretty this morning. That I have to get up early enough to see the sunrise is sad, though.
