Over the weekend, the NPC construction staff had installed all the plumbing that was needed for the various things being installed and were just finishing up some preliminary wiring when Fraser and the students arrived.

"As you can see, we're just about ready to start transforming this floor into something that resembles the other floors in the building. The construction staff are doing some wiring work so your job for today is to complete some minor yet important tasks. Screwing in the protective coverings of wall sockets and light switches, touching up the paint around the trim, checking to make sure all the plumbing works, making certain that everything will be accessible as the walls are standing now and to begin moving materials for the next phase from the ground floor up here."

See, not too hard, right?

"Safety first and remember not to put your fingers in wall sockets. That will not be pleasant."

At all.

Sixth Floor, Wednesday

Things were moving smoothly with the renovation of the sixth floor. "Today we're finishing up the framing. Over the next few days the real construction workers will be installing all the plumbing, so we've gotta be done by the time we leave today."

He pointed at the pile of hard hats and safety equipment. "Safety first."

Fraser was back up on the sixth floor today, chatting with some of the construction crew as the students filed in. Once everyone had arrived, he sent the worker on his way and turned to the students.

"Welcome back," he said, smiling at them. "We're going to continue with the framing process today. It's a lengthy process considering we've got a lot of rooms to frame before we actually start with any of the interiors. Therefore, please wear your hard hats and your tool belts. Work together, lift with your knees and ask for help should you need it."

He gestured to the equipment table and watched all the students get to work.
[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com
All things considered, not much had gotten done last Wednesday. Everyone seemed to have a lot of other things on their mind and Fraser couldn't necessarily fault them since he'd been thinking the same thing. The framing of the sixth floor had gotten somewhere thanks in part to an NPC staff of workers who seemed to have dealt with hormones quite well.

"Good morning," Fraser said, nodding. "I hope we are all feeling a bit...better. We're going to continue the work on the walls since we lost a few days to things." Things, yes. "NPC construction has started things out so you'll just be helping with what's been set up and what needs to be set up. This definitely requires a hard hat and a tool belt. Safety first."

Fraser hoped they took that into account last week too.

"Please get to work," he said, gesturing to the walls. "Thank you."

Sixth Floor, Wednesday

The drawings were handwavily there and the wood delivery was on time. Since Monday, the NPC construction team had set up the chalk lines and prepared the area where the walls were going up to help the novices get things done.

When it seemed everyone who was coming had managed to show up, Ronon started talking, looking way too good in his leather pants and tight vest. He'd rejected the hard hat for now and had his dreads tied back with a large band. "Okay, today we're framing out and setting up some interior walls."

He went into extreme detail explaining and showing how this was done, and by the end was sure the heat was on somewhere because that slight sheen of sweat was not from exertion. "Some of the pieces are more awkward to hold and nail into place, so help each other out or call me over if you need."
[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com
It was a brand new month and, while he was still feeling slightly under the weather, Fraser was feeling better than he had all last week. A weekend of rest was very helpful.

"Good morning," he said once the crew had assembled. "We've completed the ripping out of the carpeting. Thank you for all your help. Now, of course, we're going to prep for both the new tile and carpeting to be laid. That requires the floor underneath to be cleaned and the carpeting and tile to be hauled from the ground floor to the sixth floor. Be careful, work in pairs, and work at your own pace. Once the floor is prepped and the materials are here, we'll begin laying the new floor."

Fraser gave them all a nod and gestured for them to get to work.
[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com
Fraser still wasn't feeling his best but he was determined to be at the project site since he'd missed his usual day on Monday due to the holiday. The carpet was still in the process of being ripped up but Fraser was pleased at the progress they were making.

"Good morning," he said, smiling at everyone who'd arrived. "We're going to be completing the carpet removal today. Unfortunately, we've found some...mud underneath certain areas so please watch your feet and...hands and pants and everything. Mud won't hurt you, of course, but it will certainly dirty your clothes. If you do not want to rip up the carpet, please make your way into every empty room, checking for abnormalities on the walls, floors and ceiling. Look for water damage, mold, anything like that."

And probably mud.

"Please wear your safety equipment," he added, "and be safe."
[identity profile] satedan-soldier.livejournal.com
"Hope you guys enjoyed your day off Monday," Ronon announced, looking like a tool with a hard hat perched jauntily atop his dreads. "We didn't get as far as we'd hoped last week, so today we're attacking the carpet. This stuff hasn't been cleaned in years, so wear a mask and stab any creatures lurking underneath with your utility knife." Or a nice hunting blade if you were a Satedan.

"So, get your safety gear and get going." This was his concerned face.
[identity profile] satedan-soldier.livejournal.com
It was early, so there were kids to supervise in the severely slow process of renovation work. "You guys know what to do. Once we get all this junk hauled away, we'll start ripping up the old carpet under your feet right now. That means hard hats and masks. No complaining you can't breathe later."

There had to be something else. Finally Ronon added, "And if you need somethin' talk to the Constable."
[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com
Bright and early, Fraser was back up on the sixth floor, already decked out in his snazzy hard hat. It fit his head much better than it fit his fellow supervisors.

"Good morning," he greeted those that had arrived. "As you can see, the wall is almost completely down and, luckily, there doesn't appear to be anything behind it but what the remnants of what once was the rest of the sixth floor. Before we push through, we're going to clean up the debris we've left behind when we took down the wall. There are wheelbarrows here to haul parts of the wall away. Please be careful as you do this. You're also welcome to take down the remaining parts of the wall to make our passage easier."

Fraser walked over to a long table and patted the hard hats and tool belts. "Please be safe. Wearing your equipment is mandatory. Once you're equipped, please get to work and find myself or Professor Dex if you need anything."
[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com
The huge wall that separated the sixth floor that everyone could from, well, the unknown was still up though it was still a little battered. Professor Dex and the students had done a very good job of starting in on the demolition. Today was, of course, about continuing that.

"Good morning," he greeted. "Please don your hard hats and continue working on the wall. We're trying to prevent the use of explosives so it might take us a little longer than usual. All the tools are provided and safety is the top issue."

He nodded at said tools.

"Take breaks when you need them and help each other out if the need arises. Come find myself or Professor Dex should you need any further help."

With that, he nodded and sent them off to work.
[identity profile] satedan-soldier.livejournal.com
Day two of the summer project found Ronon in charge of explaining some thing. Never a good sign. "Okay guys, today you need a hard hat and a mask. See this wall?" He pointed. It was a large, thick wall. "We're going through it. Get yourself a sledgehammer and get to work."

Okay, so maybe there wasn't much explanation given.
[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com
It was the first day of the summer semester and, like previous summers, it was time to kick off the senior project. This time, it was a little different. All seniors who had decided to work on the senior project had been notified handwavily to report to the sixth floor of the dorms. Upon arriving, they'd find a floor that looked generously smaller than most other floors and a big giant wall.

Fraser himself was wearing a hard hat and grinning.

"Good morning," Fraser said, nodding, "and welcome to this summer's senior project. I don't know how many of you have been up here but, if you haven't, welcome to the sixth floor. Once, this floor matched all the floors below it. Then, we had a situation were the sixth floor was pretty much destroyed. We're going to fix that. The sixth floor is going to be renovated and rebuilt. First of all, we need to do some cleanup and this wall needs to come down to see what's behind it. We're not going to worry about that today. Today, I want you all to go into the remaining open rooms and clean them. That means debris on the floor, on the walls, anywhere. We need this area to be clean before we began heavy construction."

He nodded towards the cleaning supplies and hard hats.

"This project is going to be run by myself and Professor Dex so, if you have questions, please see one of us. Yes, we do have plans for what's going up here but we'll reveal those in due time. The blueprints are still being drawn up so consider it a surprise for now."

With that said, Fraser tucked his hands behind his back and grinned.

"It's time to get to work."

[This is the senior project for those staying the summer but ANYONE is allowed to help if they'd like!]

KKG Meeting:The Pool

John had scrubbed for what seemed like hours this morning and yet he still felt unclean after last night's...thing with Gavin.

Also, his back was freaking killing him. That bastard was heavy as hell!

So the KKG had been given notice that they were meeting in the pool today where there could be relaxing and stretching. No snacks, but there were plenty of rafts, floaties, and noodles to play with. Not dirty. Ew.

Janet has made her way allllll the way to the dorms, and alllll the way up the stairs after talking to Pam. It's very tiring on her wee little legs, and she crawls up onto the couch with her eight pounds of clothes and towel cape, and decides she's bored.

She spots the remote and her eyes light up, and she reaches to grab it. The problem is, she doesn't know how to work the remote, so she's yelling "WORK!" at it and pouting when that doesn't turn the TV on.

She might need help. Or advice that TV ruins the brain.

Benton woke up this morning to Dief licking his face and wanting to go outside. So, after sliding on clothes and tying his own shoes, Benton wandered into the lobby with Dief at his side.

He's got a book in front of him, a puppy at his side and cereal to eat.

[So open!]
[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com
Rory was in the lobby with as many pillowcases as she could find, and was wearing her bestest party dress. It was BLUE. She had pink tights on, too, and pretty yellow ribbons in her hair.

She was attempting to fasten a pillowcase to her head with bobbypins. Because all brides need a veil.

A sign that she had carefully made and stuck up as high as she could reach - so yes, about three feet up - on the wall read, GET MAREED HEEERE.

Vladdie was bouncing around, so VERY excited. Weetiny people! Eeee!

She had also raided her own stash of goodies, and there was a cake made of Hostess products piled up. It would have to do.

[ooc: Because seriously, how many little kids would love to play pretend wedding? And yes, I'm OCD threading this. Hang on okay, we're good, omg!]
[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com
Fraser's surprised the lobby is so quiet on a Saturday afternoon. Usually students are coming and going and, with the end of term so near, he'd thought the noise would be even moreso.

Everything is quiet.

This is either really good...or really bad.

[One adult here for all your weetiny fun needs.]

Okay, sure, Angel had promised Parker and - whaddyacallit - everybody that he was going to avoid Logan.

And Angel had every intention of doing that.

Except for that pesky living on the same floor problem.

But... how much of a problem could that be, really?

[ooc: OCD threads coming UP!]
[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com
Fraser's reading a book he'd checked out from the library. He thinks it might be overdue and, thus, he's prepared to pay his fines. He makes a point to remember to visit the library tomorrow morning.

For now, he's quietly reading. Yes, he's wearing the hat and yes, Dief is sitting at his feet.

[Open for interaction yay!]
[identity profile] pyramid-is-life.livejournal.com
Kara lounges in the second floor common room flipping through the channels. There is a big bowl of chips and several chilled root beers on the table. The usual busy common room had been pretty quiet this week. She wonders if people were still recuperating from the weekend or if it was something else.

She might think more of it, but AKA is starting and Kara is quickly distracted.
[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com
Fraser's taken enough time to go back to his room, change out of his uniform and into jeans and a sweater before he ends up back in the first floor lobby of the dorms.

He's sitting on one of the benches in the lobby, reading a book from the library he'd acquired earlier and just keeping a general eye on things. Later, he'll venture outside, make sure the school was still secure.

[If you'd like to meet and/or talk to Fraser, the new security guy, now's your chance. Go for it.]

Hawkeye was in his favorite place again. Well, favorite because he hadn't really bothered to look around much in town. After spending time in Korea, stuck in the same camp day after day, Hawkeye had learned that it was better to bide your time in a new place and explore it slowly, especially if you were going to be there for a while.

He was content with the lobby, his room and his office for now. Maybe he would venture out into the town next week and find a bar or the location of those delicious pastries he'd seen waft in and out of the lobby as people came and went.

But for now, the lobby was his domain. He sat with a crossword puzzle. Hopefully this time he wouldn't need to call in his friend all the way from a Naval ship just to get the answers.
