Third Floor Common Room [Thursday Afternoon]

The last few days had been busy and Claire took advantage of being on break to sleep in.

But once she was awake, she was restless and she decided to go to the common room and bake some cookies.

Rather than bother with trashy daytime TV, she cranked up the radio and danced around the kitchenette.

"Thanks," Claire grinned. "Help yourself." She waved her hand at the racks containing cooled chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies.

He bowed his head to the obviously delicious efforts before patting his dog.

"I would, they smell lovely, but then I'd have to move her."

And she was doing her best to look adorable and loving.

Claire laughed. "I could bring a few over to you," she offered. Because the dog was really doing a good job of looking adorable.

"I wouldn't want to distract you, but if you should happen to wander this way, it would be appreciated," he said, patting the dog.

"What are you listening to, by the way? It's... interesting."

Good interesting, but he wasn't much for music.

"Oh, it's just an eighties retrospective on one of the radio stations," Claire said. "A lot of the music they play on the current stations drives me crazy in a not good way."

She grabbed two of each kind of cookie and walked over to them, handing Liir the cookies and reaching over to pat Makejoy on the head.

He took the cookies with a grateful nod and Makejoy turned her head to lick at Claire's hand with a happy doggy grin.

"An 'eighties retrospective'," he said, the way you do when you have no idea what something is. Liir had been brought up to speed about many things when it came to this world but music had always fallen behind. The only one to ever mention it had been Andrew and his music hadn't really been mainstream.

Claire nodded. "They're playing music from the 80s all day. The best stuff."

"The eighties is... where?"

Wait, he'd had this discussion with Emmett, hadn't he? Or possibly--

"Oh, when, I mean. Sorry. I'm not from this world. I've been here for over a year now but some things still throw me. It's, er, catchy, though."

"Oh, I'm sorry!" Claire apologized. "I didn't realize that. Um, well, right now it's two thousand and..." she had to pause a moment. "... nine. Here, at least. It's two thousand and six at home."

And let's not even get into how that's not the weirdest thing she's dealt with.

"The nineteen eighties were almost thirty years ago. But they had some really awesome music. Just really bad fashion sense."

He laughed a little.

"Nothing to apologize for. My ignorance isn't your fault, after all. And I do like the way it sounds."

People liking music from before they were born didn't really ping him as odd, after all.

"So where are you from?" Claire asked.
