Wormhole X-Treme Campfire, Monday evening

Ben, not surprisingly to anyone who knew him, was hungry.

He'd managed to get the fire started without incident and was now cheerfully burning cooking some hot dogs and staring into the flames.

Meeting new people would be fun--that's why he'd put out extra food and had given the bugs some silent encouragement to bite people at a different fire--but Ben was hoping they'd come to him.

He glanced over at the nearby cabins hopefully, then made a face, dropped his completely charred hot dog into the fire, and tried again.

Ben was a terrible cook.

"I think that can be arranged," Ben said, reaching for a new, undestroyed hot dog. "I haven't really missed the cabins, but the food is good."

When he didn't burn it.

Which was why Tahiri was going to be keeping an eye on the hot dog. "Company's not bad either."

He smiled. "It'll do. Who's in your cabin?"

[weetuskenraider]

"It'll do?" Tahiri echoed, sticking her elbow out to get him in the ribs. "It'll do? Firekeeper and Blind Seer are there, and Triela, and Karla, and Emma, and a couple of other people I haven't seen around yet."

You know, when she hadn't been hiding.

Ben grinned and moved to wrap his arms around her. "Sounds interesting," Ben said. "I haven't been in mine except to drop off my bag. Maybe I'll live in yours instead."

"I don't know." Tahiri was happy to hug him back. Pretty hard, as a matter of fact. "Firekeeper'd probably make faces at us, and it's all girls in there . . ."

"If I don't get a haircut soon, I'll blend right in," he teased.

"You're making it sound like a good idea," she hedged.

"Maybe put it up like Aunt Leia used to..."

Tahiri reached out to poke him. "Oh, Ben, no."

He laughed. "You don't think I could pull it off?"

[weetuskenraider]

"I am not," she said distinctly, "going to be able to kiss you if you look like that."

. . . seriously, like she didn't already have some messed-up issues with his family.

Ben looked hopeful. "Can you kiss me now?"

[weetuskenraider]

"That better not mean now because you're really planning on that hairstyle," Tahiri said, already trying to pull his head down for a kiss.

Ben laughed and kissed her. "Missed you," he murmured.

"Missed you too," Tahiri replied -- and reached up to muss his hair.

Ben laughed. "Going to tell me what's wrong yet?" he murmured.

"Haven't slept well," Tahiri admitted, thinking he'd be able to guess the reason.

"Need another trip out to the beach, then?" Ben replied.

Sleeping in the same cabin as George was going to take some getting used to.

Yeah, Tahiri was thinking the same thing. "I think we both could use it."

[momslilassassin]

He rested his chin against her shoulder. "How did my vacation rest disappear so fast?" he murmured.

"Fandom being Fandom?" Tahiri kept her arms around him and leaned her head against his. "I should have warned you earlier."

[momslilassassin]

"You had other things on your mind," Ben said. "I'll deal with it later."

"You can deal with it when we get to the beach," Tahiri said pointedly.

"Not late enough," Ben decided.
