Behind the Dorms, Tuesday Afternoon

So they couldn't have a reserve leader meeting this week, because Leto was a tree. Arthur being Arthur, he was fairly convinced Leto was just doing it to spite everyone (especially him), but that was hardly the reason he was behind the dorms this morning.

"Today, we're going to be working on fortifying the dorms," Arthur announced, "As well as setting up for their defense. If a fighting force somehow breaks through the gates, it will be of great importance to ensure that the dorms are kept safe and well-defended." He... took a moment to handwavily in order not to break the mun's brain elaborate on his own time's strategies for standing in a square with spears hoping something will fall on them defense of such buildings. It involved barricades. And fires. And, okay, standing in a square with spears hoping something would fall on it, but he said it... a little classier than that.

"I would like you all to take a march around the building," because physical exercise was also always good, "And find the weak spots. Windows, damaged walls, and the like. There are a number of defensive positions we can take in order to safeguard the gates. I've listed a number of them, but go take a look and bring us your own ideas."

He nodded at the crowd, then paused. "If anyone is searching for Lord Leto," he said, "He's currently topiary, but with any luck, he'll grace us with his presence again next week."

Seriously. Couldn't Leto turn into a tree when it was actually useful, like in a quiet week where Arthur could have the room to himself?

Worf... was still a kitten.

And he was not happy about it in the least. Not that this should be a surprise to anyone.

However he still was at the meeting because security and defense are important things.

Standing in a square with spears . . . if Tahiri didn't know by now that Arthur was serious, she'd be giving him a weird look for this. She got the importance of fortifying the dorms, and the fire and barricade had worked pretty well with the zombies, but seriously now, the spears thing . . .

Gabrielle . . . was not boggling over the spears thing; it sounded like a perfectly logical way to defend against harpies or something like that.

Though someone should probably tell the girl not to tuck her nifty new phone into her cleavage. It wasn't like there was that much of it.

Yeah, Dinah remembered how well that worked in Arthur's gryphon dream. She'd stick with fire, thanks. Or possibly suggest they get Triela to get them some really big guns.

Ino listened, sort of, and kinda shrugged as she did. Really, his way of defending things was a bit different than they did things back home, but the basics were always the same.

She absently stretched as she thought.

Turtle was paying very close attention because this sort of thing was probably something she wasn't very good at, but she was determined to be as good as she could be at it.

Mostly because all the times that battles at home had involved buildings, they'd been the attacking force. It was... interesting, to hear of strategies for the other side.

Sometimes Ben forgot just how far back in time Arthur came from. The explanation of tactics that sounded very close to "stand in a box and wait for things to fall on us while we hold sharp sticks"...well, reminded him.

He'd stay in his nice version of the galaxy with space travel and explosives, thank you.

Fiona was back at the reserves, once again, and literally winced as she heard him talk about strategy. First stop tonight: her room for books. And the bookstore for a copy of one of them that she could give to him.

Possibly via a smack to the back of his head. Was he out of his mind?

Karla was here, watching again. And not laughing at the spears thing. Out loud. Granted, she didn't know much about military tactics and her civilization certainly wasn't advanced enough technologically to have things like 'turbolasers' but standing around with pointy objects waiting for things to fall on your head just sounded...stupid.

Okay, so he'd only ever gone to the reserves that one other time, but Griff thought he should try it again since his mun was around and ended up staring a bit at the mention of spears in a square.

Team up, take a march, consider the weak spots and the tactical possibilities that don't involve putting a bunch of men in front of the gates with big giant spears and large shields.

Or decide it's time to ask Arthur about getting really big giant spears and shields. You know.

Worf had plenty of opinions about various tactical capabilities that could be implemented on school grounds.

But still: Kitten.

So really there was a lot of frustrated mewing as Worf tried to convey his concepts and ideas with a lot of paw waving.

Tahiri wasn't going to ask about giant spears and shields, but she was going to consider the tactical possibilities. From what her recent messages from home had been saying about Admiral Kre'fey's plans and some of the Jedi ideas, she'd better make a habit of thinking tactically.

Oh boy.

She had her toes dug into the grass as she eyed the dorm building speculatively, not having set off on her walk yet.

See, Gabrielle's plans for tactical possibilities involved digging pit traps around the dorms (they had people with magic, right? They could do that!) .

And possibly arming people with skillets.

And maybe a rack of Spartan javelins.

Okay, maybe her strategy for defending Poteidaia wasn't the right one for the dorms. Maybe there could be boiling oil? Hmm.

"Think in three dimensions," Dinah said aloud, then frowned. "I wonder. Can you get in there through the sewers? Maybe not the attackers, since the zombies didn't seem to be able to get in the roof, but the rest of us?"

Maybe it was time to explore the basement....

Karla eyed the dorms, thinking the best way to defend the dorms magically. The bottom windows would need to be heavily-shielded, of course. Maybe a tangled web that, when activated, cast an illusion around the entire structure? Nothing much, just shifting the doors and windows over a few feet in order to keep the invaders attacking the walls instead of the vulnerable areas... Did the dorms have their own source of water?

She made a few mental notes to go over with Merlin.

Arthur was wandering the premises, hoping that Leto was going to get his arse back already so they could finally discuss matters with the other reserves. Not that he couldn't call a meeting without him... maybe next week...

Zack was there, too! And he was fortunate enough to be not-a-shrubbery, today.

Not that he had been one yesterday, no matter what Arthur might have said.

This defensive stuff was mostly over his head, sadly. SOLDIER was far more proficient at seek-and-destroy offensive methods than most kinds of tactical defense.
