So they couldn't have a reserve leader meeting this week, because Leto was a tree. Arthur being Arthur, he was fairly convinced Leto was just doing it to spite everyone (especially him), but that was hardly the reason he was behind the dorms this morning.

"Today, we're going to be working on fortifying the dorms," Arthur announced, "As well as setting up for their defense. If a fighting force somehow breaks through the gates, it will be of great importance to ensure that the dorms are kept safe and well-defended." He... took a moment to ~~handwavily in order not to break the mun's brain~~ elaborate on his own time's strategies for ~~standing in a square with spears hoping something will fall on them~~ defense of such buildings. It involved barricades. And fires. And, okay, standing in a square with spears hoping something would fall on it, but he said it... a little classier than that.

"I would like you all to take a march around the building," because physical exercise was also always good, "And find the weak spots. Windows, damaged walls, and the like. There are a number of defensive positions we can take in order to safeguard the gates. I've listed a number of them, but go take a look and bring us your own ideas."

He nodded at the crowd, then paused. "If anyone is searching for Lord Leto," he said, "He's currently topiary, but with any luck, he'll grace us with his presence again next week."

Seriously. Couldn't Leto turn into a tree when it was actually useful, like in a quiet week where Arthur could have the room to himself?

"Books," she told him after a few more breaths.

"Books, at first. Then some possible tactics for different versions of a siege using different numbers, positions, and fortifications. But books, at first. I wasn't... I didn't want to try and meddle with his authority.

"I just wanted to show him better."

Zack's little smile shifted to a wry grin, at that.

"Arthur is all pride. He probably just took your offer the wrong way, or something." He scratched his neck, mulling it over, and then nodded a small, pleasant nod. "If you have any free time in the next couple of days, how about you pull some of those books out and go through them with me? Defense isn't my strong point, but I could probably get my head around some of the tactics you've got and present them to Arthur-- and Leto, when he isn't a tree-- before the next meeting."

"Which is ridiculous, since it's not as if I don't give him his due when I know him to be an authority," and no, she wasn't quite up to being completely reasonable yet, "but sure. I can show you. I won't have all my books that I'd want until I call my great-grandmother and ask her to send them, but I have most of the important ones."

Zack wasn't renowned for being the world's most reasonable guy half of the time, either, so it wasn't as though he was going to go demanding it of somebody else. He nodded again, frowning because he couldn't find any sort of easy fix to help better keep the peace.

"The important ones are a great start," he decided. "What sort of things do they cover? Where I'm from, my branch of the military is mostly focused on offensive manoeuvres, so this stuff on defense is a little new to me. Whatever you've got, I'd be thrilled to go over and try to adapt to Fandom."

"Everything from specific campaigns and situations to general theory," she admitted, "offensive and defensive. That's another thing."

She looked around the area for a moment before speaking.

"If we're going to do it, we should do it right."

"Oh, wow. So this isn't exactly something we're going to be able to cover over the course of an afternoon, huh?"

Zack was all for doing it right. He really was. He also had the attention span of a hyperactive chihuahua, and this was going to be a challenge. A welcome challenge, yes, and he'd do anything to keep Fandom safe if need be. But still a challenge.

She'd... sort of thought they'd covered that in the 'have studied since I can remember' part. But nonetheless!

"Not really, no."

At least he got a little smile for it?

Maybe she'd just studied the same thing really really hard?

Zack couldn't be expected to know these things!

"Well, then I make time for it," Zack replied, grinning and nodding.

...okay, that was it, he was getting hugged again.

"Thank you, Zack."

Oof!

...

It was entirely possible that Zack was totally in it for the hugs, now.

"Anytime, Fiona." And there was a squeezy hug back, naturally. "Come to me with whatever, okay? I'm always here, after all."

Considering he was really one of the very few people she felt comfortable glomping, that was entirely fair.

"Certainly. I'll try and come to you more often. Promise."
