Firekeeper would simply not be doing her name justice if she ignored the presence of the firepits by the cabins.

So here she was, sitting by a crackling fire with Blind Seer sprawled by her side. Of course, a good campfire should have food to offer, which is why there was a rabbit and a couple of fish (the furred kind, although they'd been skinned first, of course) roasting on a spit over the fire.

There would be no marshmallows here unless someone else thought to bring some.

"Well, I suppose that depends on your theory on brains. But, no, he just did it for the shock and cool value."

Tahiri shook her head. "Why is that cool?"

"Because it displays a blatant disregard for social norms and mores."

"Huh." Tahiri set the datapad aside again. "That's what passes for kids being rebellious in your world? Weird."

Priestly frowned. "Well, yeah. Why, what is it in yours?"

"Depends on which world you're talking about." Yeah, she was really being a brat now. "I mean, I'm no expert on what bored Coruscanti kids do to make their parents mad, but . . ."

She grinned. "I had weird ways of rebelling when I was a kid."

Yeah, yeah, these Fandom kids with their multiple worlds. . . .

"And it never had anything to do with breaking social norms." Priestly somehow doubted that.

"Okay, so it did." Tahiri looked at him in mild and completely feigned indignation. "But 'I named my bantha even though no one ever does that' doesn't sound that good, does it?"

"Hey, it's totally the spirit of the thing. That's what rebellion's all about."

"What are you, an expert on it?" Tahiri asked, because no, Priestly's hair didn't strike her as remotely out of the ordinary.

Priestly glanced up as though he could see his own hair.

"Something like that."
