Main Campfire - Wednesday Morning

It was too nice a day to not take advantage of before being cooped up at work all afternoon and evening, Claire decided. Which was why she was out at the main campfire early with breakfast sausages and a huge iron skillet she found that would cook eggs over an open fire.

She was in an excellent mood, now that her boyfriend was no longer puppy-shaped. They had handwavily spent the previous evening snuggling and watching movies.

For now her excellent mood translated into making breakfast for anyone who happened to stop by.



[Open campfire! I know I'm not the only one stuck at work and not off on vacation.]

"I would appreciate that," Raven said. "But no sausage, please, I do not eat meat."

Claire nodded and cracked a few more eggs into the frying pan. "Are you enjoying cabin life?" she asked.

"I am still uncomfortable with the lack of privacy," Raven said. "It is hard to meditate. But I have found I can do so out in the Preserve."

"Yeah, I'll be glad to get back to real walls and doors," Claire agreed. "Though I'm not much for meditation. But it's good you found somewhere you can go for that."

"I require it daily to center myself and strengthen my shields," Raven said, making herself comfortable on one of the logs that circled the fire. "I find it very relaxing."

"Shields?" Claire asked, stirring the eggs as they cooked.

Raven nodded. "I must shield myself from the emotions of others or they will overwhelm me," she said. "I am empathic."

"Oh, I didn't know that," Claire said. "I imagine that would be more difficult in close quarters in the cabins.

"Yes, very much so," Raven said. "The more people there are, and the closer they are, the stronger the emotions seem to me, and I must work harder to block them out. And I do not wish to eavesdrop on private matters."

Claire winced at that. "Yeah, you probably pick up on a lot of things you'd rather not know about."

"Particularly when people are affectionate with one another," Raven agreed.

"That would definitely not be fun," Claire said. She slid the eggs on to a plate and handed it to Rachel. "So aside from that, how is everything going? Do you like your workshops?"

"They are interesting," Raven said, thanking Claire as she took the plate. "The Destiny and Free Will class is...though provoking. Ethics and Etiquette is somewhat mystifying, however."

"Yeeeeah," Claire agreed. "I stopped by there this week because Jon's in that class and he was a puppy and I was... baffled."

"I am uncertain of the purpose of some of the activities," Raven said. "I selected the class because I had hoped lessons in etiquette would allow me to learn more about customs in my mother's world, but Professor Deadpool insists on destructive things."

Claire nodded. "He's... odd, definitely."

She picked up on the 'mother's world' thing. "The world you were raised in was your father's?"

"My father has ties to Azarath, but it is not his world," Raven said. Not yet at least, and not if she could help it. "My mother was from Earth, and she was brought to Azarath before I was born."

"So you came here to learn more about your mother's world," Claire said. "Did... I mean, is your mother..."

She paused, unsure how to tactfully ask if her mother was still alive.

"She remains in Azarath," Raven said. She left out the part about Arella not knowing where her daughter was at the moment. "It is her home now."

Claire nodded. "Can you contact her for advice? Or has it been too long since she's lived on Earth?"

"If I wished, I could contact her," Raven said. Well, she could, she just wasn't planning on it. "But it has been many years. Sixteen."

"Yeah, she probably can't help you much," Claire said. "Well, if there's anything I can do, please let me know."

"Thank you, Claire, I will do so," Raven said. "This is very much a strange new world for me."

Claire smiled. "There's a lot in Fandom that is strange and new for me too."

Raven nodded. "I imagine this world is unusual for everyone here," she said. "Fandom has many interesting quirks."
