Main Campfire - Wednesday Morning

It was too nice a day to not take advantage of before being cooped up at work all afternoon and evening, Claire decided. Which was why she was out at the main campfire early with breakfast sausages and a huge iron skillet she found that would cook eggs over an open fire.

She was in an excellent mood, now that her boyfriend was no longer puppy-shaped. They had handwavily spent the previous evening snuggling and watching movies.

For now her excellent mood translated into making breakfast for anyone who happened to stop by.

[Open campfire! I know I'm not the only one stuck at work and not off on vacation.]

He shook his head.

"It was the tale of a girl at a boarding school. It was a book that had meant a great deal to her."

His smile was warm.

"I wouldn't have known what to pick anyway. It was a kindness."

"My books are all philosophy and mystical studies," Raven said. "I have never read any fiction, although some of it has sounded intriguing."

"I was taught to read on old romance novels," and yes, some of them were horrible and no, Liir was not mentioning the one with the Horse because then he'd have to also mention who'd OWNED the book and then everyone's brains would require bleach.

"But most of my books now are on magic. Or cooking."

The first he'd been given, the second he'd gradually bought over the time here.

"I have never read a romance novel," Raven said. "Ms. Blue's store has some in stock, but they are terribly graphic and far-fetched." Not that she'd looked at any of them, of course. "Books on magic I find fascinating. Cooking I have never tried."

...those would be the kind he'd read, yes. Unfortunately.

"You'd be welcome to see the ones I have. I... doubt I'll ever be able to return them, considering, so I suppose they are mine now. And if you ever wanted to try cooking, you'd only have to ask me and I'd show you."

"It does seem a useful skill to possess," Raven said. "The dorm food is not always appetizing, and those who are kind enough to share food do not always have meals without meat."

"You don't eat meat?" he asked curiously.

"Those of Azarath do not partake of animal flesh," Raven said. "I have never eaten meat."

"Well," he said after a minute, "if you're ever hungry, like I said, you're welcome to bother me. I know quite a few dishes that don't use any meat, as we weren't often visited by the merchants and hunting was a careful thing where I grew up."

You couldn't exactly be an Animal rights activist and EAT the Animals, but it's hard to tell if the bunny you want to have for dinner is going to talk back to you unless you're at close range.

"Thank you," Raven said with a shy smile. "I will definitely take you up on that offer. It has been interesting to try new dishes while I have been here."
