Rumor Gal Campfire; Thursday Evening

While he was getting pretty damn tired of the whole cabin thing, Chuck would have been stupid not to take advantage of an already lit fire and the new bag of marshmallows he found in the kitchen. He wasn't quite sure who kept buying the marshmallows but Zefron bless them.

Joint in his left hand, Chuck tried his hand at trying to flick marshmallows in the air with his right and catching them in his mouth. Turns out he had a talent for it.

Raven had spent the earlier portion of the evening alone in her alcove, meditating on what Karla had told her and today's conversation with Professor Skywalker. She still was not sure what she should do, but the prospect of allowing herself to feel was undeniably exciting. She heard voices from people around a campfire outside and was drawn toward them for a taste of what she might finally allow herself.

"Hello," she said in shy greeting as she joined the group.

"Hi, Rachel," Claire said with a wave.

"Good evening, Claire," Raven said. "How are you this night?"

"I'm doing really well." Claire said. "How are you?"

"I am well also," Raven said. "What has put you in such a good mood?"

"My boyfriend's not a dog anymore," Claire said.

"Rachel," Chuck said, giving her a smile. "We just keep running into everywhere this week, don't we?"

Raven ducked her head to hide a blush. "I am not following you, I swear," she said. "It is a small campsite, and this is the only fire lit."

"I didn't think you were," Chuck assured her. "Though I wouldn't complain should you decide to do so."

"I...shall bear that in mind should the urge ever take me," Raven said demurely, for lack of thinking of any other way to respond to that. "How are you doing tonight, Chuck?"

"Well enough, I guess," Chuck said. "Enjoying the last few days of cabin life. You?"

Agnes gave her a friendly smile. "Hello, Rachel!" she said with a wave. Shy people ought to stick together, after all.

If Tara joined them, they could create a shyness vortex that would threaten the entire island.

"Hello, Agnes," Raven said. "You are well tonight?"

"I am," Agnes answered. "Are you? You seem more comfortable than when you first got here."

"Yes," Raven said, nodding. "I have become more accustomed to being in such close quarters to others. I am not as easily overwhelmed as I first was."

"Hi there," Sookie said, smiling over at the other girl and keeping in mind what Claire had said about her being an empath. "I'm not sure we've met yet, have we? I'm Sookie."

"No, we have not," Raven said. "I am Rachel. It is nice to meet you."

"You been here long, Rachel?" she wondered. "I like your, um...." She didn't know the right word, so she pointed to her own forehead rather than be ignorant.

Raven touched her fingers lightly to the red gem on her forehead. "It is called a Chakra," she said. "I was born with it. It helps me to meditate and center myself."

"I guess it's lucky it's real pretty, then, if it's something that's there no matter what," Sookie said with a nervous little shrug. "It helps you meditate?"

"Good evening," Edmund added to the welcomes. "If you'd like a marshmallow, you should probably wrestle them away from Chuck before he eats them all."

"I am a pacifist, I will not engage in acts of violence even if it is to obtain food," Raven said, taking Edmund's words far too literally. "Is it custom to fight for marshmallows?"

"Not where I'm from, but I'm not an expert on customs in other peoples' worlds, so it's entirely possible there is a world where that custom takes place. Here though, I think you could just ask him nicely and he'll oblige."

"Chuck has been kind to me since I came to the island, so I believe asking nicely would do," Raven said. "Do they taste good? I have never had one before."

"They're mostly sugar, I think. They're very sweet and chewy and soft. There's nothing quite like them. You're not from what a lot of people here would call a 'normal' world, are you? If you've not had marshmallows before." They were one of the few sweets he allowed himself.
