The Deck [Saturday Night]

It had been a weird day, between the guy at the diner freaking out and Dinah heading out of town. Claire decided to head out to the deck with a pitcher of iced tea and enjoy the evening.

She idly considered building a fire, but decided against it because of the heat.

"Things have been good," Claire said. "No complaints really."

"That's good," Jennifer said. "Did you get affected by that sleeping thing?"

"I didn't, no," Claire said. "But my roommate and a couple of my friends did. And my uncle's boyfriend."

"Me neither," Jennifer said. "I guess we were some of the lucky ones."

"Do you know if there was a you there?" Claire asked.

"No one has told me," Jennifer said. "So I don't know. Maybe?"

"Rose told me that I was there and had dark hair," Claire said.

"...are you not naturally blonde?" Jennifer asked.

"No, I am," Claire said. "That's why it's so weird."

"That is definitely weird," Jennifer said. "I guess... I haven't really talked with anyone that fell asleep."

Claire nodded. "Were any of them friends of yours?"

"None of my close friends were," Jennifer said. "And I've not really wanted to pry with anyone."

Claire nodded. "I can totally understand that."

"It's sounded like it really wasn't fun for anyone," Jennifer said. "So why pick at scabs?"

"Yeah, I'm kind of glad I wasn't caught up in it," Claire admitted.

"Me too," Jennifer said. "I have enough problems, you know?"

Claire nodded. "Yeah, same here."

Granted, her problems weren't on par with the ones Jen was currently dealing with.

"But, the new school year is almost here," Jennifer said. "That should help everyone get their mind off things."

"Influx of newbies to break," Claire joked.

"Plus, student council elections," Jennifer said.

"And cheerleading tryouts," Claire added.

"Well, we each have something to look forward to," Jennifer said. "Cheerleading isn't quite my thing."

"Student Council is definitely not mine," Claire admitted with a chuckle.

"What class are you going to be in, again?" Jennifer asked.
