The Deck [Saturday Night]

It had been a weird day, between the guy at the diner freaking out and Dinah heading out of town. Claire decided to head out to the deck with a pitcher of iced tea and enjoy the evening.

She idly considered building a fire, but decided against it because of the heat.

"I know what you mean," Ellie said. "I think everyone who attends this place thought it was going to be a normal school. Or whatever is considered normal where they are all from."

"Perhaps they should consider advertising a bit more truthfully in the future," Joolushko said. "Thought that might cost them students."

"You're probably not wrong about that," Ellie agreed. "But this place grows on you, so I'm glad I am here now."

"Grows on you?" Joolushko repeated. That was an interesting turn of phrase. "It is interesting here."

Ellie realized that the phrase might be strange to someone from another planet, so she clarified. "Grows on you. Meaning I grew to like it."

She hoped it made more sense.

"Oh." That did make more sense. "I had pictured something like a fungus, at first."

"If someone says this place grows on them like a fungus, then it'd mean they don't like it here. I guess," Ellie said. "But it is not a bad place, really. Not like a fungus."

"I haven't noticed any fungal qualities yet," Joolushko said.

"I haven't either." Ellie hadn't exactly been looking for anything like that, though.
