Third Floor Common Room, Wednesday Evening

Kate was hogging one of the sofas in the common room. The coffee table in front of her was stacked with assorted sign-making and craft supplies, including several containers of glitter.

She also had her laptop open, and was looking at a site with instructions for planning a luau.

She looked very tired, but she was in a good mood, and she had finally moved on from coffee to Coke.

Joan tilted her head. "Yeeeeeah, I think that, uh... floor orgies are probably a bad idea."

"Probably. Although that would probably make some people admit the third floor's superiority," Kate grinned. "But best not let it get to that. The rooms are more comfortable anyway. And if some people end up sleeping here, that's fine too."

"That's all stuff that will get handled when it's the time for it. How does this look to you?" Kate asked, showing Joan the sign she had been sketching on. It didn't have any text yet, but there was the hula girl, and some palm trees and pineapples.

"It looks great!" Joan said. "I'm totally impressed."

"Yay, then I can get on with the markers," Kate smiled. "Do you wanna add the text when I'm done with the drawings?"

"I can totally do that," Joan said.

"And you can also apply glitter, because we so don't want to forget that. And then I can move on to the next sign."

"Glitter is super important," Joan agreed.

"I just hope it doesn't repel the other gender from attending," Kate said, drawing over her sketches. "Some boys get weird about glitter."

"I think the possibility of food and girls in their pajamas will mitigate that."

Kate chuckled. "You're probably right about that. This is teen boys we're talking about, after all."

Joan laughed. "Exactly. And it's boys in Fandom. Who are mostly used to the abundance of glitter."

"So that can pretty much be crossed off my list of worries," Kate nodded. "This is going to be the best party ever."

"Most definitely," she agreed.

"And if it isn't, then we'll just have to try harder the next time."

"The awesomeness of the third floor will not be denied!"

"No it will not! I'll defend the awesomeness of this floor until my last breath!" Kate announced.

"...Or until I move elsewhere. Whichever comes first."

Joan laughed. "I sincerely hope it's the latter."

"Me too, actually," Kate grinned. "Because that doesn't involve me dying while still in high school."

"Yeah and we really don't want that to happen."

"It's hard to graduate when you're dead."

Kate giggled. Really, it was likely that she was just a little bit hyper this evening.
