With summer classes over, Alex found himself gravitating to the roof again for a celebration. Okay, he was on the roof to smoke. He knew he could have gone out, gone to the mainland or something but he didn't feel particularly like doing that so he'd stayed local and gone to the roof.

He hopped up onto the edge, feet dangling over the side and pulled out the cigarettes. He had absolutely no idea what he was going to do next week especially with half of the people he talk with off island for one reason or the other. Maybe he'd just go on a bender somewhere. Who knows, if he got really lucky, he'd run into his father in one of those bars. Fun times.

It was Friday, her finals were done, and evening, which meant Emma took to the roof to feed her nicotine addiction.

"Do you even have a room?" she asked, regarding Alex bemusedly. "Or do we just stick a tarp over you when it rains?"

Yes, she'd seen his room, but Emma thought she was funny.

"No need to even do that," he said, glancing over his shoulder at her. "I like the rain. And I bet I'd kick ass in a wet t-shirt contest. Which means, you should be up here with me when it rains."

"Oh no, I'm not competing against you in a wet t-shirt contest, you'll cheat," Emma replied cheerfully. "I'm not sure how, yet, but I'm sure you'd find a way."

"Does this look like the face of a cheater to you?" he asked, pointing at his face and trying to affect his best adorable pout.

He would totally cheat.

"Don't you dare pout!" she laughed, shaking her head. "Your attempts at adorable innocence won't get you far. I know better."

"I'm very innocent!" Why he wasn't getting struck by lightning right then was a mystery for the ages. "I'm both adorable and innocent. Look at my face. Look!"

See, more pouting. He could really work that look when he wanted to.

"Adorable I might admit to, might, but not innocent," Emma informed him. "Nope, sorry. It will take more than big sad eyes to change my mind on this one."

"Innocent's no fun anyway," he said, dropping the pout. "Chasteness seems to go along with that and I'd rather not be a monk."

Those poor men.

"But, aww, adorable," he teased, grinning. "Such a softie, Emma."

"You could be a Chinese Buddhist monk," she pointed out. "They're the ones that went around doing kung fu, I think. Then you could be badass and adorable at the same time."

"Although I said I only might admit to the adorable. I haven't seen any reason to do so, yet."

Triela didn't spend all that much time on the roof, but the view was pretty good for certain sorts of things. Tonight she had a small backpack slung over her shoulder by one strap.

She paused and looked around. "Hope I'm not interrupting anything," she said when she spotted Alex.

"Yeah, I'm doing high level math," he said, not even looking back. "Genius at work."

"Huh. You're good at looking... less than studious." She flashed a quick grin in his direction.

"Trick of the trade," he said and tapped the side of his head. "All getting done up here. No paper needed."

"Wow. I'm impressed." Funny. Impressed sounded a lot like amused.

"Most people are," he said, finally looking back at her. "Planning on parachuting off the roof or something? It's not that high."

"It's more of a rappelling sort of height," Triela agreed.

"Rappelling...down the roof?" he guessed, looking down. "That much of a challenge?"

"Six stories?" Triela shook her head. "Nah. It might be interesting if you were trying to make a hard entry on a specific window, but just going down?"

She shrugged. "But I'm not doing that either. Tonight."

Emma glanced up, a small smirk lingering on her lips. "Triela," she drawled. "Are we going on an adventure?"

"Nothing planned," Triela smirked. "But I bet we can come up with something if you're desperate for something to do."

"I'm never desperate, darling," Emma replied. "You're the one on the roof, at night, with a backpack. That's part of the plot of every action movie ever invented."

"I don't watch a lot of movies, so I wouldn't know." Triela laughed and shrugged the backpack off. "I just need to check my equipment every so often."

"You carry your equipment around in a backpack?" Okay, from what Other-Emma had known of the Other-Triela, and what Emma herself had encountered over there, she found this mildly surprising, and wandered over to look. "I would think you'd have fancy cases or something."

"Depends on the gear," Triela grinned. "The case this one comes in doesn't have any straps. Better to stick it in another bag."

"Now you're going to make me curious, and we all know that killed the cat," Emma replied. "Show and tell, darling."
