2nd Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

Needing lots of room in order to work, Jean had commandeered a common room for great high school politics justice.

One needed space in order to make a bunch of posters telling people to vote for her. Ooo! Glitter! They needed to have glitter on them too.

But only a classy amount. Nothing gaudy.

"You're from the past, too?" Hayley said. "Oh, wait a relief."

"Ten years in the past," Elle said. "How 'bout you?"

"More like over forty," Hayley said. "It's been a trip."

"Holy crap," Elle said. "But hey, at least that's not so bad. There's people here from hundreds of years in the past and even farther in the future."

"I met a girl from outer space yesterday," Hayley said, nodding. "You can see aaaall sorts here."

"You really can," Elle agreed. "We're a widely varied bunch."

"I actually met another Elle already," Hayley said. "She's my big sis, no less."

"Oh, that'd be Elle Woods. She's great," Elle said. "Perky as hell, but she's awesome. She's one of my best friends."

"Nothing wrong with perky," Hayley said. "Just means ya got energy."

Hayley was pretty perky herself.

"Overwhelmingly perky, I should say," Elle amended. "But no, nothing wrong with it. Just takes getting used to."

Hayley nodded, her usual three nods in quick succession. "Well, maybe this just means we can be friends, too."

"I'd like that," Elle said. "I don't have a whole lot of friends here."

"Awww, why not?" Hayley said. "Is it cause you're too pretty?"

Elle preened a little at that. "Naah, I think it's just because I'm still kinda new myself," she explained. "I only got here at the start of the second summer term a couple months ago."

"Well, I'll be your friend," Hayley said. "I mean, you seem the type that you'd want as a friend. You know?"

"Aww, you're so sweet." Elle smiled. "You seem like somebody people are gonna like."

"Yeah, well, if I don't scare 'em off, first," Hayley said.

"I know how that goes," Elle said with a slight, bitter smile.

Hayley nodded. "Just cause a girl gets arrested doesn't mean she's a bad person," Hayley said.

"... arrested?" No condemnation in her voice, just a little surprise. But surprise wasn't necessarily a bad thing.

"I kinda beat up a guy," Hayley said. "He was trying to beat on someone else, though."

"Oh. Well, then, that's okay. The reason you beat 'em up," Elle added quickly. "Not what the guy was doing."

"He was gonna beat up on of the greatest women that ever lived," Hayley said. "And I conked him on the head. Somehow that gets me arrested. What a world, huh?"

"The world's just not fair," Elle said, making a face. "Not fair in your time and still isn't fair today."

"Yeah," Hayley said. She smiled over at Elle. Not her usual, vacant smile, but one oftrue warmth and emotion. "I am really glad I met you, Elle."
