Andy felt in need of an evening of tv and munchies, surprisingly without an afternoon of smoking preceeding it. So he was sitting on the couch with a large array of candy and chips spread out around him, flipping through channels and looking for something that would hold his interest for more than few minutes.

"I totally am," she bounced, hyper. "I so hope I make it in, omigod. Who's your roommate?"

"Her name's Jean Grey," Elle said. "She came the same time we did."

"Oh." She's heard of her but hadn't met her yet. "Anyway tell me what is going on with you like are you seeing anyone? Dating? What?"

"Nope, not dating anybody," Elle said, giving a quick shake of her head. "Haven't met anybody, really."

Elle twisted her lips. "Me either and if I think about it too hard I get all kinds of discouraged about it. I shouldn't, but I do." Sigh. "I do have a lunch kind of not date with Priestly tomorrow after classes and then there's this this, uh, thing... Friday... with Alex but not really with Alex omigod he's so frustrating!"

"I've never had a boyfriend, though -- or even anything approaching one -- so I don't know what I'm missing." Elle shrugged. "And oh God, Alex is either really awesome or incredibly frustrating and I'm not sure which."

"I know I'm missing dates," she declared on a little huff of air. "As for a boyfriend, I don't know either." Elle twirled a strand of hair. "Um... so you know Alex. Like... well?"

"Just from a couple campfire conversations and the stuff you hear on the news," Elle said. "But even just based on that, I can't decide just how big of an asshole he is."

Elle avoided eye contact really well. "Uh-huh." And keeping her opinion of Alex to herself was like, important and stuff. She thought. Especially keeping her reason for why she was seeing him Friday night.

...not that Alex would remember, omigod. Maybe he was the A-word.

"Why do you care, anyway?" Elle asked with her usual hit-or-miss sense of tact. "Something goin' on?"

"There's nothing going on. Not really. Not like I have a date with him or that he even asked because he doesn't date I guess or... no. Nothing. Totally."

"... right." Elle eyed her friend skeptically. "He hurts you, I'm frying his ass." And there went the little sparks of electricity playing along her fingers.

Elle blinked. "Was that... did I just see... " Blink blink.

Well, shit.

"Sorry," Elle mumbled, forcing the sparks away and looking down.

"Wait. What was that?" she asked, moving closer to push herself into a position next to Elle. "Did you... I mean how? Because wow that's like totally cool."

Elle smiled cautiously as she looked up again. "Yeah, I did," she said almost shyly.

"Eeee!" she squeaked. "Do it again!"

Elle giggled. "Okay." She held a hand out, and suddenly there was a ball of electricity sitting on her palm.
