Fourth Floor Common Room | Friday Late Evening | 9/4

Hayley was having trouble sleeping again. She'd tried everything. Counting jumping sheep, counting sheep jumping in a minefield, the usual sort of thing. None of it was working. So Hayley padded out to the common room in her bright pink pajamas (thank you, Elle).

She turned on the TV, only to discover late night re-runs of Vanessa Saturn. Wow, TV had change a lot since her time...

Kyle hadn't been planning on following Bobby's advice, but when he walked past the common room, he decided to take it as a sign. "Hey Hayley," he said after walking into the room. He stayed standing. "I've got a question for you."

"Well I hope I got an answer for ya," Hayley said, smiling.

"We didn't go on a date the other day, did we?"

Hayley shook her head. "Oh, it wasn't nothin' official, don't worry." She grinned. "Unless you want it to be!"

"No!" Kyle caught himself. "Wait. That came out wrong. I didn't mean for it to be a date," he explained. "Even though you're really nice and I had a good time."

"It's okay," Hayley said. "We didn't say it was nothin' other than two people gettin' music, ya know? It really didn't have anything to make it a proper date, any way."

"No food," Kyle agreed, nodding. Bobby had insisted that there had to be food involved. "But the radio said it was a date, so I wanted to make sure it wasn't." Kyle Reese: great for a girl's ego.

That got Hayley to frown a bit. "You wouldn't want a date with me?" she said.

"I don't know," Kyle admitted. "We had fun and you're good to be around, but I don't know you, so how would I know if I wanted a date with you? I don't know how dating is supposed to work."

"You don't know how dating works?" Hayley said. "You... never done it before?"

This seemed more surprising than Elle saying she'd never been kissed.

"There were 3 Minute Dates at Caritas one weekend, but I was told they're not real dates. So no. Home's a little different to here."

"...why would ya want a date that only lasts three minutes?" Hayley said.

"I never asked," Kyle admitted. "I think it was a way to meet a lot of people in a short amount of time. I didn't learn much about them, but now I know their names to say hi."

"That's no date," Hayley said. "Didja even hold anyone's hand or anything?"

"Why would I hold their hand? We weren't running and trying to keep together."

"Good e-evening," Hinata greeted, giving him a slight smile. "Or night, I suppose as it's rather late."

"Hey Hinata," Kyle replied. He remembered her from Practical Weaponry. "Is there a set time when it stops being evening and becomes night?" Always the philosopher.

"I think," she said, considering that. "That officially it's when the sun is entirely set that it b-becomes night. But I would not swear to that."

"So evening is when it's getting darker, but not there yet," Kyle supposed. "That makes sense. It would definitely be night now."

She nodded.

"By several hours, at least." Hinata cast a glance around the room. "Not that you'd k-know it by how many people are still up, but perhaps because it's Friday?"

"Could be," he nodded. "There's usually one common room with people in it most nights, but not as many as this. No classes on Saturdays might be part of the reason. I have to work tomorrow though."

"Wh-Where do you work?" she asked. "Everyone must stay up late so they can sleep in."

"Turtle & Canary, for all your shopping needs! I get there pretty early, but I don't need a lot of sleep. Why are you awake late?"

Her grin was a bit rueful.

"I simply lost track of time," Hinata admitted. "I was reading and before I knew it--already late. You?"

"I'm not tired yet, and I was looking for Hayley."
