The deck, Saturday afternoon

Dinah got back from her coffee chat of GREAT JUSTICE! with Daisy to find that the deck? Was decorated with streamers, balloons, glitter, noisemakers, hats, and wow, flowers.

So a keyed-up Canary was currently batting a balloon around like she was still a cat, and considering ordering a cake to go with all this stuff, wondering whose birthday it was.

TWEEEET!

"I've always wanted a bloody, tragic death," Cal said. "It's only fitting, after all."

"Ooh, I like that last one," Cal decided, nodding with approval. "And throw in some big bird to slowly eat away my insides, too."

Cal just stared at Dinah for a moment.

"That," he concluded, "would be pretty sweet."

Cal's jaw dropped, like a very understated kid on Christmas morning.

"I get to pick?"

And the reasons why that might make someone blush did not escape Cal who, despite himself, grinned crookedly. "Go pick out restraints, huh?" he asked.

"I've been gone all summer, Dinah," Cal reminded her, lowering his head to return that look. "Do they now? That sort of thing?"

Because it was important to be comfortable while a pterodactyl ripped your intestines out.

Cal grinned. He was out of practice, definitely. One could argue that he was never really in practice to begin with, but he'd been getting back into the swing of these sorts of looks with the wide-eyed girl.

"Dite's Decadent Delights, you say? Now what could decadent delights possibly have to do with restraints, Dinah?"

The slight stumbling through a response was cute; it was even better knowing that he was in part causing it, which helped Cal get a grip on his own sputtering heart in his chest, pounding out a rhythm in his temples as he struggled with deeper implications. Teasing like this was fun, but if this shop was really what Cal was thinking it was...there was a whole can of worms sitting right in the middle of it that he hadn't had to open in a long time.

Three months could be a really long time, and he kind of wondered how much Dinah really remembered about him.

"Are you going to help, too?"

"Well," Cal amended, with a small grin that showed he wasn't quite done yet; he had that uncontrollable tendency to take something and try to push it well beyond the comfort zone if given half a chance, especially now, "not everyone's cut out to be restrained to a rock to be eaten by prehistoric creatures. But you'll at least have to show me there and introduce me to the owner like you said."

Consider Cal's stage name back at the Sixty-Niners, the two of them should have plenty to talk about...

"Really?" Cal couldn't help a laugh at that. "That could be either really good or very, very bad..."

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-09-06 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
"And when do you suppose we should embark on this...restraint securing adventure?"

Would Dinah be the type to squirm a little and blush cutely over fluffy pink trim? What about if whips were brought into the picture? Why was he so excited to find out?

"I think I could work a Thursday," Cal said and, with some aplomb of his own, concluded with a nice, "It's a date."
