Second Floor Common Room: Sunday Evening

It was a rather bored looking Layla who was flopped upside down on the couch and doing some channel surfing.

Currently it was on the Travel Channel and Layla was watching the host of Man vs. Food trying to scarf down the hottest curry known to man called "Phaal".

"Clearly I'm starved for entertainment," Layla said to herself with a loud sigh.

"Ender had a soul?" Tara wondered. It was the only interpretation she could think of, and the room was suddenly colder. "I -- I'm so glad I didn't have to go. It sounds like, like a nightmare."

"What do you mean?" Karla asked, confused. "I thought you people believe everyone has a soul?"

Kaeleer had a similar concept of the Self, but without any of the religious overtones involved.

"But you're right. It was a nightmare. I've never been so glad to wake up as I was after that final battle was over. Everything was just horrible over there."

There was a small lie there. Not everything had been horrible. Which made some things over here that much more awkward.

Tara shook her head. "When you become a vampire," she explained, "everything that you were -- your soul -- gets r-replaced by the demon. If Ender was there enough to know he wanted to not be there ... it's not supposed to happen."

She shrugged. "Maybe it was the spell."

Karla nodded. "It happened to a lot of students who were vampires over there. The spell went off, bringing our Selves--our souls, I guess--over and they went into whatever body we had over there. It was even harder for them than for the rest of us," she said, looking sad. "They were surrounded by dangerous creatures who looked like friends but couldn't be trusted and stuck in bodies with urges that they didn't understand."

Like Dinah, refusing to hug her because she smelled so delicious.
