Sixth floor kitchen, Saturday night

Shilo had ended up taking a three-hour-long nap this evening (mostly because she could), and as a result had missed dinner time. So now she was attempting to fend for herself in a kitchen that she'd only read about in her father's issues of Popular Mechanics, in articles like "How I Restored My Parents' Old Kitchen" and "Nostalgia for The '00s".

So she knew all about how the stove was constructed, and how to replace parts that weren't out of circulation yet with bits of wire you found around the garage... but no clue as to how one actually used it.

"Is macaroni and cheese supposed to be that color?" she asked the universe at large while staring into a pot.

[I realized tonight that Shilo hadn't been up to the top floor yet. Open to anyone!]

How Turtle managed to get from the deck to the sixth floor (not to mention all those rooms in between) so quickly was anyone's guess really.

"Oh, there is someone up here! Hi, Shilo! Is this where you've been hiding?"

"Really good! What are you making, there?"

"You're not so sure?" Turtle asked, frowning at Shilo for a moment before her eyes warily drifted toward the pot.

"Like....Cheeto orange?"

These were very important distinctions.

"I have candy," Turtle said, promptly producing a bag, "if that helps chase away the scariness of the mac'n'cheese. Also, if you won't eat it because it's orange, I will."

What? She loved that crap.

Turtle tilted her head. "Totally edible," she assured Shilo. "That's how it look as a lot of the time. And not only is it edible, but it's delicious."

Yeah, Grace Windsor Wexler was rarely one for homemade meals. And when she did feel the inspiration, the results were usually pretty dismal.

"So far, so good!" Turtle said, her face instantly lighting up and she even bounced a little bit on her toes. "It's looking to be a promising campaign. I've got candy today, and tomorrow I hope to find the time to get my posters up and not a day too soon! Elections are sneaking up on me fast!"
