Shilo had ended up taking a three-hour-long nap this evening (mostly because she could), and as a result had missed dinner time. So now she was attempting to fend for herself in a kitchen that she'd only read about in her father's issues of Popular Mechanics, in articles like "How I Restored My Parents' Old Kitchen" and "Nostalgia for The '00s".

So she knew all about how the stove was constructed, and how to replace parts that weren't out of circulation yet with bits of wire you found around the garage... but no clue as to how one actually used it.

"Is macaroni and cheese supposed to be that color?" she asked the universe at large while staring into a pot.

[I realized tonight that Shilo hadn't been up to the top floor yet. Open to anyone!]

This was it. While Turtle, who was never going to shake off how much she hated that she'd been accused of bombings she'd never done in the past, was not one to support the damage of public property, especially not so close to a very important election, she felt much more strongly about her hatred of gym class uniforms...and her annoyance with certain teachers' usage of them. She liked to think that many fellow students felt the same way, too, and it was a destructive position she felt her campaign would gladly suffer.

And being Mr. Dex's TA made getting the uniforms all the easier, too.

It would have been nicer to do this in the main campfire, but right outside the dorms would be a higher traffic spot. There, in a very contained and approved fire ring, was crackling the beginnings of a nice little bonfire, mingled with the smell of burning spandex/polyester blend, as Turtle fed more of the gym uniforms into the fire, smirking proudly.

It was almost tradition, really.

"Come on!" she called brightly to passersby, and might even toss a uniform or two their way. "Down with crappy gym uniforms! They severe our individuality and insult our sense of fashion! Burn 'em all!"

[ uniforms so burned with permission, and of course the post is open! ]

Joan and Kate had worked all afternoon to transform the common room into a tropical paradise.

Inside the door, a small table held flower leis for all of the party-goers. There were garlands hanging around the room, tabletop torches on most of the flat surfaces, and paper lanterns adding festive mood lighting.

Hawaiian music played in the background if anyone felt the urge to hula.

[please wait for OCD up! Have fun!]

Shilo had Frooties, Blo-Pops, Tootsie Rolls, and Starbursts out in bowls, and had stocked the fridge full of sodas and juices. She had a selection of meta for Disney movies to pick from.

The Candy Party was on a roll.

[Up early for great SP justice, OCD is up and ready to go!]

Posters were being hung up everywhere by one Shilo Wallace, reading the following:

CANDY PARTY. TONIGHT. THIRD FLOOR COMMON ROOM. BRING A BAG TO SHARE, OR ELSE.
Because sleep is completely overrated after last week!
Any questions, find Shilo or call 555-SHLO.

[Totally open for interaction, if your character wants to catch Shilo in the process.]

The cabins were mostly quiet. It was incredibly late Friday night--technically very early Saturday morning--and by this time, both the most of the righteous and unrighteous had finally found their beds--well, theirs or someone else's.

There was one major exception to this: a group of girls sneaking out of the Wendy the Werewolf Stalker cabin, preparing to go forth and steal boxers. For great justice, and even greater hilarity.

[Open for anyone at the party willing and interested in joining. Again, please wait for the OCD is up. Names and underwear descriptions will be added as I get them.]

Karla put the finishing touches on the party preparation. She was glad she'd given herself extra time to set up; she'd had to do everything by hand. Even most basic Craft was beyond her, other than being able to occasionally call in or vanish small items. How the hell did landens manage? The only way she'd finished on time was because a few females kept deliberately vague to keept the option open, but to avoid modding had shown up and helped.

The only way she was ever drinking the suppression brew again was if it were a life-or-death situation. And depending on whose life-or-death it was, Karla might have to give some serious thought to the matter.

Still, it was done. The counters and scattered tables practically groaned with food and drink (the majority from T&C of course!): fruits, veggies, popcorn, chips, candy, various chocolates, soda, water, juice, Gatorade, wine, vodka, rum, various mixers...The furniture in the living room had been pushed aside for maximum space (it would still be a bit cramped, regardless) and the TV had been set up to play whatever movies folks brought along. Extra pillows and blankets were heaped everywhere, both to use as furniture and in case anyone forgot theirs. There were a few sets of hastily-acquired speakers for people to plug their pod-mabobs and empty3 players into for music, and a small section of the kitchen had been set aside off for experimenting with hair dye and make-up.

And in her room was a small pile of sacks and bags of various kind. All the better for stealing boxers with.

The cabin--and Karla--were about as ready as they'd ever be. Now just to wait for folks to show up.

(Posted early for great SP! Girls only, but all girls invited. Please to be waiting for the OCD up!)

It had certainly been an interesting day so far. Joan decided it was very likely to be an interesting evening as well, so she headed out to the firepit in front of her cabin once the sun went down. She got a fire going and leaned back on a log, waiting for more people to join her.

[hold for ocd plz OCD up! Please read the ooc note!]

Tuesdays were one of Alex's free days so he decided to wander out to the main campfire and spend some time there. It wasn't that hot so he got the fire going and took a seat against one of the logs, lighting a cigarette (because he liked destroying his lungs) and crossing his legs at the ankle.

Any type of s'mores equipment was absent since he was too lazy to get some of his own and he figured someone else usually brought the fixings if they wandered out here. And if they didn't, no skin off his back.

S'mores or not, the important thing for Alex was being outside and out of his cabin. It was a practice he'd taken up years ago when he had to escape his house to find somewhere where he could be away from the noise. Here, it turned out to be campfires and decks. Who knew?

[it's ooooooooopen!]

It was a quiet night. Just after midnight, a steady rain had started falling, drenching the island quickly and showing no sign of slowing. A few hours later, at 2am, the peace of the night was broken when the fire alarm started blaring. It would shrilly blare, stop and then repeat the same shrill blare two seconds later. And it was not going to stop until the all clear was given.

Thus, all the students had to carry their tired selves from their snuggly significant others or their snuggly beds to go wait IN THE RAIN on the dorm lawn. The fire department was making sure all the students were a safe distance away from the school so there were no awnings to hide under. All the students would be stuck out in the steady rain.

The fire department headed into the building but this could take awhile. Enjoy your fire drill, kids!

[IT'S FIRE DRILL TIEMS! Just remember it's raining but it's warm. Have fun! See here for fire drill details! And take a look here for our previous fire drill!]

Shilo could not sleep. So she came up to the roof, where she could think without feeling like she might disturb Momoko.

Right. Thinking. Not about blond princes in Spandex and great asses and-

"SHILO MARNI WALLACE. Get a hold of yourself, right now." Yes, she was going to lecture herself.

[ooc: open like a roof, feel free to catch her up here. Yes, I just decided that Nathan would name her after her mother on the spot.]

Claudia needed room to stretch out as she worked on outfits for Zayne and Zack (those poor, poor souls), so the sofa was covered in orange and purple zebra print fabric which she was industriously running through the bedazzler.

The television was on too, but just as background noise.

Shilo had gone and gotten a laptop today, and had decided to play with it outside, next to the fire.

She was also trying to eat a s'more without getting any of it on the keyboard, which was an interesting process to observe.

[Open to any who wish to come along and watch Shi try to figure out her "historic" device. Or to snag a s'more.]

Liir had been playing his usual game of avoidance for the weekend and thus decided to do something about it.

That was why he was out with a lit fire, putting sticks into the ground around the fire with a few different kinds of sausages, hoping to provide a little lunch and maybe, just maybe, see people. He wasn't worried about the sausages, even though he wasn't that hungry.

Makejoy, growing girl that she was, looked as if she'd eat every last one if no one came.

[open like a fire!]

Shilo was in a dress.

It was not black.

She was in sandals.

Also not black. Or remotely clunky.

She'd gone to the trouble of styling her wig, even.

Now she just had to work up the nerve to actually leave for the party.

"What the hell am I getting myself into..." she moaned.

[ooc: Open to any who want to offer encouragement/insults/advice/alternative entertainment but will be SP until later, I'm off to dinner with my boy and my sister]

Once the sun went down, a rather spectacularly large bonfire was lit for the party. No, Merlin was not aware it was now celebrated on the first of May. Calenders change, after all.

There was even a crudely constructed maypole there in case anyone felt the need to dance around it. They did so at their own peril, of course. The mockery that may ensue would probably be great.
[identity profile] 17andinfected.livejournal.com
Shilo had decided to celebrate a successful first day at work with a fire. So she'd found some kindling, an old newspaper, and matches, and was building a fire the same way that her father had taught her how to in the fireplace.

She didn't know if it worked the same way for a campfire, but she could only hope. Besides, it wasn't as if she was planning on this being someone's funeral pyre. Just a small campfire, and hopefully some company.

She suddenly wondered if she should have stopped for s'mores supplies.

[ooc: Oooooopen.]

After her Civil War Reenactment class (and seriously, what were her parents thinking with that one?), Joan decided to make lunch in the common room. Nothing fancy, just some sandwiches and cut up fruit, but she had spent the weekend hiding from the insanity of the new folks and figured it was time to get out and meet people.

Rather than put the TV on and deal with trashy talk shows or soap operas, Joan had the radio tuned to an 80s station and was bopping along to the music as she worked.

[open to new & old alike! sandwiches & fruit are totally moddable.]
