Fourth Floor Common Room; Monday Evening [ 09/14 ].

Clearly, someone getting his old job back at the diner had been cause for inspiration, as Cal was in the kitchen of the fourth floor common room, flipping burgers. Not just any burgers. Awesome feta cheese burgers.

The fact that the new Rumor Girl was on the TV and he was paying more attention to the TV than the burgers was merely coincidence.

Really.

"I wouldn't know," Cal commented back with a little bit of snark, "I don't watch the guys. And I've always been kind of a fan of the old fashioned note. 'Do you like me? Check Yes or No.' But I'm pretty retro."

"The girls are pretty, but I'm more interested in the guys. I can understand where you're coming from," said Hoshi. "Sadly, note-writing is something that seems to have disappeared by my time. We still write letters, though, but they're usually recorded and transcribed. There's no actual writing involved."

"I still like my typewriter," Cal admitted. "I don't think I'll ever get to wanting to switch to a computer."

That got a puzzled look from Hoshi. "What's a typewriter?" she asked.

That puzzled look was just met with a stare.

"I...I'm showing you my typewriter," he concluded.

"It's some sort of writing implement, like fountain pen, right?" asked Hoshi.

Cue more disapproving staring.

"It's not that archaic! It's much more like...the precursor to the keyboard."

"Oh! I think my grandfather used to have one of those. How much memory does it have?" asked Hoshi.

Cal was just going to stop trying to use other expressions now.

"None. You young whippersnapper."

"I'm sorry, I'm really having trouble picturing this thing," said Hoshi, giggling. "I definitely have to see how a typewriter actually works."

"You'll have to just stop by, then, and I can show you," Cal offered. "I've got a really nice one. It's an Underwood, and it's an antique even for me, but I take good care of it, so it still works well."
