4th floor common room - Dinner-ish

Twas a silly thing to be nervous about cooking. She didn't do it much at home either, there was little time and she was out doing Dog work when supper came. She'd time now. Plenty of it and it seemed useful to find out what those buttons in the kitchenette meant. Which was the goal of this visit to the common room with Jono. To figure out the cooking thing.

Just don't cook my fish, Pounce warned in what would be cat talk to anyone else but Beka. He took the safer route and jumped on the couch for a nap.

She ignored him and glanced at Jono. "You don't happen to know how to make apple fritters?" she asked.

Hayley made a face. "You're not just sayin' that cause you're a guard?"

"What's that got to do with aught?" Beka narrowed her eyes, studying Hayley and wishing that wasn't the first think on her mind the whole time. "Nobles are trouble."

"I..." Hayley thought for a second. "...I dunno what."

She looked confused for a second.

"Just be careful," Beka said more gently as she relaxed her stance. "They're not all bad, but most are bad news."

Hayley thought for a second, and looked at her roommate with big eyes.

"You're just lookin' out for me, aren't ya?"

Beka blinked in surprise, but she supposed she was. "I'm a Dog," she said lightly, a bit apologetic. She'd not meant to tell Hayley what to do.

"Yeah, well... that doesn't mean you're out to get me, right?" Hayley said. She was having a moment.

"Why'd I want to hobble you?" Beka asked, confused now.

"Well, that's the thing," Hayley said. "Why would you? You don't, right?"

"No," Beka said slowly, watching Hayley. "I've no reason too." She didn't want to get one either.

Hayley breathed out a little.

"I'm sorry I been all nervous about you," she said.

"Does this mean you'll stop now?" Beka asked hopefully.

"I'm gonna try," Hayley said, and she meant it. She still looked a little shaky.
