4th floor common room - Dinner-ish

Twas a silly thing to be nervous about cooking. She didn't do it much at home either, there was little time and she was out doing Dog work when supper came. She'd time now. Plenty of it and it seemed useful to find out what those buttons in the kitchenette meant. Which was the goal of this visit to the common room with Jono. To figure out the cooking thing.

Just don't cook my fish, Pounce warned in what would be cat talk to anyone else but Beka. He took the safer route and jumped on the couch for a nap.

She ignored him and glanced at Jono. "You don't happen to know how to make apple fritters?" she asked.

He looked around for a moment, then shrugged again. For good measure, of course. //I imagine there's something to heat oil in, somewhere around here. Was there anything else yer wanted to learn to make?//

And now he was poking through the cupboards. He had no idea what was actually in there.

"Tis really good when they put nutmeg in the batter," she said, relieved that Jono did know what she meant. "I talked to someone and he'd never had any. Seems a shame."

She watched Jono, staying a few steps inside the door, as she wasn't sure what he'd be looking for. She didn't want to get in his way. "What's a dish typical to where you're from?"

After a few more moments of poking about, Jono surfaced with a deep-fryer. Success!

//Typical to London? Well, there's fish and chips, or bangers and mash... Meat pies, curries, bacon and kippers...//

He could go on for about forever, yes. Talking about all of the things that he missed eating.

"Chips and curries?" she asked, picking out the ones she'd not heard of. "What are those?"

Hayley peeked into the common room, seeing if there was a couch free.

"Oh... hiya roomie," she said.

There was a couch free, if you didn't take the one where Pounce was sprawling.

"Hello Hayley," Beka returned the greeting. "How are you?"

"Sore," Hayley said. "I fell down a lot this morning."

Beka frowned at her, looking for any indication that she'd gotten injured. "Did sommmat happen?"

Coming back to her room after a workout, Kennedy stuck her head into the common room and spotted a familiar face.

"Hey. Beka. What, you cook too?"

Hayley looked over, from where she'd crashed out on a couch.

"Oh, you know my roommate?" she said.

"What, is that like some kind of shocker or something?" Kennedy asked, leaning into the doorframe.

Hayley shook her head. "Nope," she said. "Just kinda nice, I guess."

Beka made a face and shook her head. "Not usually," she admitted. "It'd seemed a good idea to learn how to use everything."

Kennedy flopped backwards over the arm of the couch to sprawl out with her feet dangling over the armrest. "Why? I've never learned how and I'm doing fine without it."

Spoiled. Little. Rich. Kid.

It'd be silly to admit that she worried she might accidentally set sommat on fire if she didn't know how it worked. She went for the second reason. "It's useful and cheaper. I've not got that much coin and it's more expensive here."

Diana had gotten tired of making long distance phone calls on her parents tab and was now poking her nose into various common rooms. "Food?" She had Samuel in her arms.

"Unless I mess it up," Beka said with a nod. "Hello."

"Food is very hard to mess up." Diana reassured her and shifted Samuel over to an empty counter. "Do I know you?"

"Don't think you do," Beka said, a little amused. "I'm Beka Cooper."

Manh, Pounce went, stretching up from the couch to inspect the newcomers.

"That's Pounce and there's food for them too," she said, motioning to Samuel.

"Girl with cat," Kennedy said, waving from her spot on the couch.

Kennedy. That is not an answer to the question.

"Girl without cat." Diana shot back. Kennedy might want to duck that flying tennis ball.

"Whoa!" Kennedy didn't duck, but she did fling up a hand to try and deflect the ball. Ow, that stung like a bitch without a racket, and she had to shake her hand out to get the feeling back into her fingers. "What'd I say to warrant that?"

Diana shifted Samuel so that he could be easily petted. "Samuel."

"My roommate has a cat, too," Hayley said. "Or should I say, a cat has her?"
