Third floor common room [Wednesday afternoon]

Once he'd encountered a few people and figured out what was going on, Jaime had almost locked himself in his room. Not because he wasn't used to weird stuff, but because he wasn't used to being more off-balance than the Scarab. Usually he was calm and collected and the Scarab flipped out an told him to blow things up.

Not that the Scarab wasn't flipping out and telling him to blow things up, it was just that the Scarab was apparently unimpressed by the fact that a lot of girls were now boys. Which was not supposed to happen. So Jaime found himself in a weird position where he was confused and unstable while the Scarab just kept on business-as-usual.

And there was only one thing Jaime knew of that would help stabilize him at a time like this... Home cooking. And while he didn't have his mom around to do it, he did have a phone and could follow a recipe.

Which explained the rich smell of beef and peppers and mole sauce wafting through the common room. Jaime felt himself relaxing already.

Jaime quirked an eyebrow. "Let me guess... no classes today, male roommate?"

"Yeah," Jennifer said. "How did you know?"

"You probably would have noticed by now if you had classes, and while it's possible that you would have gotten lucky on the roommate front, odds aren't high."

Jaime grinned. "Have you noticed any new guys hanging around the dorms?"

"Was studying most of the day before now," Jennifer admitted.

"Well, keep an eye out and you'll spot them. Then you'll realize that they're actually girls you know that the island is screwing with."

"...huh," Jennifer said. "Lucky me."

"Well, lucky you if you haven't had a long-standing ambition to be a boy." Jaime grinned in amusement. "So, yeah, probably lucky you."

"Oh no," Jennifer said. "I enjoy being a girl."

"Well, you are a pretty good looking one, so I can see why." Er... that was just an observation! Really!

"Why thank you," Jennifer said, smiling. "It's best to stay on my good side, just so you know."

"Food or compliments?" Jaime asked, just to be clear.

"Yes," Jennifer said, just to be a brat.

"Brat," Jaime snorted. "I bet you're a younger sister, aren't you?"

"Only child," Jennifer said. "Sorry."

"Then you must have just been born with incredible bratty powers or something," he teased.

"Hey, careful," Jennifer said. "I warned you about staying on my good side."

"I'm still the one with the food," Jaime pointed out with a laugh.

"Which means that I should be getting some," Jennifer said. "Logic. Right?"

"Or something like it," Jaime snorted. "But, please, help yourself."

Jennifer did so. "You're definitely making a great start."
